I wish I could help.I really do! I would suggest not going down the benzo. path unless you had no alternatives left. I honestly know your pain.

If they have just started for you I would suggest facing your fears head on and not hiding the fact that you have panic attacks. People won't judge and it's a lot easier to get through one if the secret is out

Welcome to the group Gary. There are a lot of us here that also suffer from panic attacks. I know just how you feel and I'm here for you if you need to talk. Sometimes just knowing there are people to talk to who understand can be of help. I know this forum has helped me very much since I've joined. I used to feel like no one really understood, but now I have people to talk to who are in the same boat, even if their situation is a little different. I see that you've suffered from depression since childhood. Have you had the panic attacks that long as well?

God bless you.

Sandy

Hi Gary!

Welcome! I'm sorry to hear you are feeling so bad

I have dealed with panic attacks for the past 13 years and it is tough sometimes. You have come to a good place for support and help. I do see a pdoc and therapist because I am Bipolar I also. I only take an anti-anxtiety med when I ABSOLUTELY have to. There are better methods to try. Maybe you could start by talking with you doc and see where he/she may lead you from there. I sincerely hope the best for you!!

Welcome Gary,

I'm so sorry you are having a rough time with your panic attacks. This group is wonderful. The people are very caring and supportive. They have helped me get through alot.

Do you have a doctor or therapist you can talk to? It is usually a good place to start for getting help and maybe medications, if they are needed. It seems as if you have alot going on right now. I hope we can be of some help to you. You are not alone in your struggles and we do care. Sometimes just knowing that will help.

Wishing you better days ahead! Your Friend, Chris

Welcome Cameron! My name is Bridget and I have had panic disorder since I was 11. Breathing excersises can help and having a bottle of water with me and taking small sips seems to help me as well. It helps with the dry mouth and seems to calm me down for some reason.

Cameron I'm sorry you are suffering. I know how you feel. I think when the panic first starts (you said you've had it for 3 months) it seems to throw everything off balance, but once you get a grip on it, it's a little bit easier to manage. In my experience from talking to a lot of people, there are different things that work for different people. Breathing exercises work for me sometimes, distracting myself helps sometimes, calling my husband helps sometimes, but it's all trial & error unfortunatley. You should just try a few different things and see what works best for you. I'm not on meds, but I have some in case they get bad. If I've done all I usually do and still feel bad, I'll take a half of one of my pills, which is Ativan, similar to Xanax, but I don't take them everyday. Have you tried any of the deep breathing exercises yet at all? Sometimes you have to practice them before they work well for you. I wish you the best & we're all here to help if you need to talk.

Sandy

I would have to agree Sandy. The medication seems to be more of a security blanket for me. I have some with me for when I feel like I really need it but I never end up taking any. It's just comforting to me to know that I have some there if I need them.

Same with me. I always keep it with me and that in itself helps because I know I have the option to take it.
