I am not a doctor although wish I was. LOL All of my comments are strictly my opinion only from my own experiences. I am on no medications at the time but have taken medication in the past. So anything I say about medication is only my opinion from the experiences I have had while on medication. Never stop taking or take medication without talking to your doctor first.

Hey Amy, I use Valarian root. I only take it when I'm having super bad anxiety and/or panic and I only take it at night. It works really well for me. It helps me sleep and stops the anxious thoughts. One thing I read about side effects though is that if you take it too often or take too much it can cause reverse affects. I was taking it daily but after reading that I switched to just when I NEEDED it. I like it.

I took this a few years back when I was on no meds. I took it in capsule form, and it did help take some of the edge off. It made me a bit sleepy, and with that being said I thought it was a terrific sleep aid!!

I vaguely remember this. I have tried it but it was a very long time ago. I recall no negative reactions Amy but just not strong enough I think to have any noticeable effects on my anxiety. My panic and anxiety were really bad at the time though. It might actually help me now since I am not nearly as bad as I was many years ago. I'd give it a try, esp. since your doctor suggested. I am gonna start back taking L-theanine. I am gonna take a little more this time than I was taking before.

I would add to this that I really don't think that Valarian could do anything if you were trying to take it with the intention of stopping or preventing a panic attack. I just don't think it's that strong. I think it works mostly for general anxiety and anxiety related sleep issues.

Thank you all so much for your replies!!! It helps me not be so scared to take it. I understand what you are all saying in that it is a very good sleep aid but not strong enough like an ativan for example. These tips will help me know what and what not to expect which in turn makes me feel better.

Thanks again everyone. Hugs!!! Smile
