"I have been abused sexually and have panic attacks" (yourfriend1)

MDJunction to me

Sylvia4648"I have suffered from depression most of my life, but had some long, non-depressed times. The last 16 years have been an on-going, constantly worsening nightmare for me medically, socially and with my family. 11/2008 to the present has been the worst time in my life, and new things just keep piling up. During that time I’ve gone from being mostly homebound to being totally homebound due to the errors of about 2 dozen doctors who overmedicated me so badly that I came home w/ 4 conditions I didn’t go in with. I spent months wanting to die, and finding MDJ may well have saved my life. It’s one of the worst feelings to know that nobody on earth needs you for anything; but now that I’ve been a group leader for awhile, there are people here who need me. Thanks MDJ." (Sylvia4648)

Sorry Lilianne.... I have called 911 before and by the time they get there you feel better. I hope you are feeling better! How often do you have attacks like this?

Yeah, I have had this happen to fcbayern. By the time the ambulance arrives, your parasympathetic ANS has usually calmed you down. It is somewhat analogous to going to the doctor for a pain you have in your big toe but for some strange reason on the day of the actual appointment, your big toe is not hurting. With panic attacks though, you are still somewhat shaken up even after calming down once the ambulance gets there. Hopefully, this saves you an unnecessary trip to the hospital and eases your concerns if only for the moment.

personally, i was on the xanax for quite some time, and i think they just stopped working for me. but i do have family members who have been on xanax and it still works for them. i think it all has to do with our own bodies and how we metabolize things. again, just my opinion. i dont want anyone arguing in here when we are suppose to be helping one another.
Stand up for what you believe...
I'm no doctor, not even in the health field:) But I have had many ups and downs with depression and panic attacks. If I can help others with my personal experiences I will. I have been on many different meds, but I think I have finally found the right combo! There is a light at the end of the tunnel...

I think as a xanax user for my panics in the past. It depends on the dosage prescribe, how often taken and for how long. Most medication become less affective over time for some and can be re introduced at a later time. Everyones body is unique in makeup and responds differently. It's comes down to personal choice. What works best for you.

I agree MichMom77. I simply stated my opinion in the previous post.

JMHO = just my humble opinion. It is also stated in my signature line. It is ok to disagree. That is how we learn and grow. Let people read different POV's and then decide what information is more helpful.

You make such statements daily. Tell me please where you said it was your opinions only within the TEXT. Your last statement, for example contains items stated as factual. Where in the TEXT did you say this was your opinion only?
May I be guided to accept others who may differ from me and always separate opinion from fact. I insist that others put the benefit of the group before anything else, regardless of a well meaning agenda. If what you say is a fact, you can back it up. If not, it's opinion and should be called that. The safety of members is paramount.

@Phil, I agree with with the shorter 1/2 benzos like xanax. It does depend on the dosage. Many people are reluctant to take more and some don't like the mutliple dosing throughout the day. I know a guy from an old Usenet anxiety/panic forum who now takes Xanax XR but I don't know that much about it as I have never taken it, just the regular xanax.

If you are one of these people, perhaps the longer half benzo would be a better option for you, again JMHO! The original poster I think said she tested the waters with .5 mgs of ativan for a month I believe.

Reread the post carefully you responed to with "BS" please. JHMO = just my humble opinion. I also make it clear in my signature line if it is not always included in my posts.

I will go back in and try to tweak my signature line to make sure anyone reading my posts knows that anything I write is just my personal opinion but I have tried to make it as clear as possible. I find some of the things written here and on other groups helpful and others not so helpful and that is ok. Some people will relate and agree with what I write and others may not and that is ok because I am the same way. In fact, we all are!
