Smile Yes I just always like to be careful because we never always know everyones medical history as their doctor does so it can be hard to try and tell someone how they can and cannot take their meds or how to stop them even if only on them for 2 weeks. You just never know. Smile All we can do is give our own experiences and how we feel. Smile
I am not a doctor although wish I was. LOL All of my comments are strictly my opinion only from my own experiences. I am on no medications at the time but have taken medication in the past. So anything I say about medication is only my opinion from the experiences I have had while on medication. Never stop taking or take medication without talking to your doctor first.

I must agree Amy. LIC is a good guy, so don't think badly of him. As opinionated as I am, I can't say anything! lol
May I be guided to accept others who may differ from me and always separate opinion from fact. If not, it's opinion and should be called that. The safety of members is paramount.

I am thankful for your responses. To clarify I am a women. I was on zoloft about 11 months ago and I just stopped taking it because I thought I was good ( I won't make that mistake again). I seemed to do well on the 50mg so I am going to call the dr tomorrow morning and see if maybe I can stay on that amount for a bit longer. Honestly I think reading the side effects just scared me cause everything scares me these days. I can not believe how bad your own brain can make you feel... I was in the Army for goodness sakes and never experianced fear like this and crazy thoughts. Some days I really think I am losing my mind...

Oh yes, by all means talk to your doctor. I was simply noting that according to her post, she has not been on zoloft very long. I don't know if this is standard medical protocol or not but I saw one psychiatrist for over 10 years. Whenever there was a problem with medication and I would call the office to tell them, this doctor would tell the staff over the phone to tell me to stop the medication abruptly. Depending on the medication and how long you have been on it, this can be a very dangerous thing to do even if the doctor tells you to do this. I have even posted in forums where doctors have told patients to discontinue benzos abruptly. Some actually believe that some benzos like ativan can be discontinued abruptly after you have been on them several months (hard to believe i know). Most good doctors will never do this. They will tell you to come in and see them but keep in mind that all doctors are not created equally and I have encountered some very bad psychiatrists in my life. Many will stack drug on top of drug and actually make you sick. It is called iatrogenesis (sp) i think.

Sshultz..I think going back down to the 50 mg and staying there for a while would be a good suggestion. Some docs try to just up u too fast. I am on zoloft and started at 25 and whenever I would go to 50 my anxiety would get worse. My dr and I decided that 25 mg helped me enough. I did that for years and am on 37.5 mgs now. Could never handle the 50. So everyone is different and if you felt better on the 50, just ask your dr if you can just stay on that dose.

sshultz,

Hi! You know that is the tricky thing about taking SSRI's when you finally reach a desired level where the Medication is actually working we a lot of times think that we are "okay" and want to stop and a lot of times as in your case do stop taking the Medication. But then we realize that without the Medication we are not okay. So just think of it as a lesson learned and don't be so hard on yourself. I think that a lot of times when we start to read all the potential side effects of any medication that can cause a lot of fear in itself.

I think that is a great idea to go back on the Zoloft and just go with the flow and if you feel better being on it then don't make yourself all worried about the "what ifs" and just allow the medication to work and do its thing.

I hope that this is making sense to you!! {Hugs} to you Smile

This is a great group and so glad that you are here with us! Wink
