morning anxiety

Lately, as soon as I open my eyes in the morning my heart starts beating faster thinking about the day ahead. I find lately my anxiety is at its worst in the morning hours. I had a mini panic attack this morning when I got up, felt disoriented, heart racing, shaky. I try to take deep breaths in bed before getting up and try to calm myself down but nothing helps. Anybody else find mornings are worse for them?

Mornings are most definitely my worst point in my day for a number of months now. Oh, yes! I agree 100% - and what you are describing is me to a tee! I have just decided that this is the way it's going to be and I get up, go into my office at 7 AM and start working (I work from home). If things arent better by 10 AM, I give in and take a Klonopin. I, too, welcome input from anyone else. And I am sorry this is happening to you too, Rflats.

Yes mornings are definitely the worst for me too. I did a little research and that is true for a lot of anxiety sufferers . There are a few different reason listed , things like blood sugar and certain hormones being at their lowest. I'm not ok until about 1 or 2 pm for some reason.

some suggestions are to eat a small high protein/fiber snack before bed and to keep one close by so you can snack before you get up for the day. just an idea. also yes, to practice your breathing exercises before you go to sleep and then when you wake up.

I work from home too Janice and I also start at 7am! how ironic Smile Thanks for the suggestions. I've been trying to sloooowly wake up in the morning and do some deep breathing, but for some reason the minute I get up and have to do my morning chores I get super anxious and panicky to start the day. I'm trying to deal the best I can and just keep saying to myself "This will pass and I'll feel better later".
