Sorry for venting but I need help I used to take Xanax they made me not feel but I got addicted so I want to try something different... Any suggestions

Hi Since and welcome. I am so sorry panic has taken over. You might find some articles here that can help you. As far as medications, talk to your doc and see what he can do to help you. We all understand what you are going through here and you are certainly not alone. I have had panic disorder for more than 25 years and for a while it did control my life but not anymore. I refuse to let something that cannot hurt me, control me or define who I am.

Baby steps are the key hun. Just one small thing at a time and you can do it. You will find alot of warm, caring people here ready to listen and help. You will never be alone again.

Hugs,

nj

Hey Since 1998!! Welcome to the group!! As you see there are some wonderful people here ready to listen and help!!! It's nice to know you are not alone and also know that things can get better for you. It is possible with the right coping skills and whatever works for you.

Being a part of this group has helped me in so many ways. I have gotten the confidence that I too can do it. Smile

I am not a doctor although wish I was. LOL All of my comments are strictly my opinion only from my own experiences. I am on no medications at the time but have taken medication in the past. So anything I say about medication is only my opinion from the experiences I have had while on medication. Never stop taking or take medication without talking to your doctor first.

Panic attacks are controlling my life too.

I'm seventeen years old and me and my family have been through alot of stressful and depressing times just lately.

I would always be the one to tell everyone that "every little thing is gonna be alright" but now it's reversed.

I read the comments about taking baby steps so i'm going to try that and take more time out of my days to relax and do something to take my mind off it. It's really good to know i'm not alone Smile

Hopefully when i next leave a message i will be coping better Thanks for the advice. Smile

Hi Since1998. I too am new to this group but I have gotten some really great tips here from good people. I think we all feel alone in the world at some point but this is a good place not to feel that way. Just this morning I tried the ice cube technique and it helped. And I've been drinking calming tea all day to stave off another attack. So far so good. It definitely helps to read about other peoples situations. Hang in there and welcome!!!

I agree with AmyGirl, there are a lot of people here that are great people and are very positive. Everything will be alright. It is hard work, but you can get over this. Not cured but better to where you can be yourself again. Can not wait to hear how things go.

I haven't cured the panics for over 20 years so don't feel alone. Medications and therapy are a must. I am not cure, it only helps a little, but it is better than the alternative. Klonopin has been better than xanax for me as far as side effects. I still get the panics almost daily
