I have experienced sudden, severe panic attacks after just 1-2 "hits" from a joint. While no longer a habitual smoker, I do still sometimes encounter it, obviously these days I avoid it but i find the linkage between the two intersting.

has anyone lese experienced panic attacks related to marijuana use? It makes sense to me in a way, i mean marijuana will raise your BP and heart rate, which may "trick" one into thinking a panic attack is coming.

Also, anyone else measured their BP during an attack? This is what scares me most as it gets to a high of 210/115, heart rate of 136BPM. That's my record anyway.

I should also mention that my attacks didn't occur until I experienced hyperthyroidism...while the hyperthryiodism is almost gone, the panic attacks remain, as i am now afraid of them!

man, the fear of fear really sucks!

binkster... Marijuana does in some people create panic attacks.. because the affect is different in everyone, some people that smoke Marijuana get paranoid and brings allot of feelings and problems to the surface.. this would be a definite trigger for high anxiety...taking your BP during an attack with result in high heart rate and PB because of the high anxiety level your in during the attack..I do know that if you had attack while smoking your setting yourselve up for another one if you continue to use....Son

I tend to live in fear everyday. fearing another panic attack. I always have to take Adavain 5 times a day. Things have been really bad lately too. My grand ma passed away Sep. 13, 2007. I still have a fear of something happening never knowing what it is. I am home bound at this point. Cant really go anywhere it seems.

Any way just saying HI.

myheartcopper...Try reading the post I sent ( good information ) I was housebound too at one time but learned to overcome the fear by realizing that I was creating the fear from the symptoms caused by anxiety by continuing to feed into the feelings with fear.. hope the info helps...Son

Funny thing...I had a major panic attack about a week before Christmas..I had passed out in the doctors office and they called 911. I had been diagnosed with high blood pressure about 2 weeks prior. In the ambulance my blood pressure was 110/65 which was low for me and that freaked me out even more. My blood pressure went DOWN during my attack. just a reply..

myheartcopper - man, that really sucks! I'm sorry to hear of your difficulties right now, and the passing of your Grandma, you will get through this!

I can definitely relate as to how one can become homebound...I noticed myself avoiding situations and places where i had anxeity or panic attacks, and then brroding on them incessantly before i would go out.

It really, really, helps me to do controlled breathing before i go someplace (if it causes me stress / anixety / panic) - the best for me was a deep breath, follwed by an exhale at least 2x as long as the intake breath, also try to imagine all the "badness going out with your exhale - and I made a point of makeing sure I did NOT stay home because of the anixety, if someplace gives your anxiety, you MUST go there to overcome it!

Also, try at least 30 mins of exercise a day, it feels great! You'll feel much, much better in 5-7 days and immediately after the first exercise routine you'll feel better too! If you don't have exercise machines in your house, just climb up and down stairs for 30 mins, or do push-ups and sit-ups.

All the best!

That's bizarre! I've read of that happening, but don't understand why it goes down. I've been doing some reading and have found both High and Low blood pressure occur with anxiety attacks - they're completely harmless (my Doc says the "load" on the heart is nothing to worry about it, if it was that high for hours it would be a concern but otherwise he says the heart can take it, and is actually made to take it) but obviously the sensations it produces is fairly horrible.

Actually I have been in the care of a wonderful DR. for the past 7 years. I would trust him with anything. To be honest though my pervius post may sound real bad I have truelly come a long way from where I was. That sounds scary in its self no that I think about it. During an EKG my heart rate went to 300 BPM. I would not of believed it if my doc. was not there to witness it. It scared the crap out of me. Though it has been a while since that attack it still happens 5-20 times a day. I think it been worse lately since she did pass away. I see my Dr. again soon and keep in contact with my LMC. weekly and the nice thing is that he calls me to check up. Being that we only have one car for a family of 6. I do feel that at this point there is only one good friend left that understands. The rest have went there seprate ways. Oh well there lose. My husband says Im to good for my own good. Oh Im rambaling now talk soon.

I had my first Panic Attack after smoking pot when I was 22. I thought there was speed in it. Was it the head injury I had 6 months earlier? Was it a suppressed childhood trauma surfacing? was it speed in the pot?!? I'm on Paxil 10 years, going to counseling in search of emotional trauma that I may have suppressed, I don't know what else to do. I hope we find the answers.

A friend of mine had her first panic attack after smoking pot, and ended up going to the ER, thinking she was having an allergic reaction to it. She never touched the stuff again because it scared her so bad. It's weird how that happens with some people. Panic is something that is so hard to make sense of!
