MDJunction to me

Macv"For me, MDjunction has been a place where I can share my experiences
living with the very rare bone disease called Ollier's ( Enchondromatosis ) with the parents of children recently diagnosed. I can help them not to run
into the pitfalls my parents did when I was young, give them a bit of a view
from their child's perspective and simply be there to offer support and
hope to people who are scared and just had their lives upended. I also belong to a chronic pain group and it's been a Godsend to be able to actually
talk with others who understand what I'm dealing with. Besides them helping me through my tough times, I can be there to help them as well. Here too, I can use my years of experience to help others avoid pitfalls and it makes me feel good, gives my life more purpose. MDjunction brings people
together when their suffering, at their darkest and feeling alone in this world and allows some light to be brought back into their lives. HOPE, that's what
MDjunction means to me!

Hi! I am brand new to this group. I am looking for support and information in regards to panic attacks and going off of benzos. I have been on Xanax for over 20yrs. I now take 6mgs. a day. In Feb., I was hospitalized for depression. During this time, I was taken off of the Xanax within a couple of days, and went through some psychosis. After I was released, I tried Klonopin for a short period of time, but this didn't help very much. My doctor then put me back on Xanax again. I am now back where I started. Today I went to a new psychiatrist. He stated that Xanax addiction can mimic panic attacks, and that I did need to get off of it. However, it would take at least 6 months in order to taper off of this. I see him again on Thursday so that we can discuss this some more. I also take Imiprimine. I was hoping to switch to a different antidepressant because I am very depressed, but he said that it is much more important to taper off of the Xanax because my brain is very confused from being addicted to it for so long. Has anyone else had an experience like this? I am extremely anxious about this! Just thinking about it makes me have a panic attack! Thanks!

Hi lavender and welcome. I understand your addiction and your doctor is right. The withdrawl and need for another xanax will mimic panic and anxiety. I take ativan (lorazepam) which is another benzo and have become dependant on it but for now I have chosen to stay on it. We all care here and we're ready to listen and help.

Hugs,

Hi Lavender and welcome to the group. As you see there are so many wonderful people here to help and support. Smile
I am not a doctor although wish I was. LOL All of my comments are strictly my opinion only from my own experiences. I am on no medications at the time but have taken medication in the past. So anything I say about medication is only my opinion from the experiences I have had while on medication. Never stop taking or take medication without talking to your doctor first.
