Last night about 2am my mother calls me and says something is wrong with my 16 yr old daughter. she was lying on the bathroom floor naked with a fan blowing over her saying she was dying (I could hear her from my end of the phone). I drove the 20 minutes to my moms, told her we were going to the emergency room, she told me "we will never make it, there isn't enough time, I will dye before we get there" she was terrified, I was scared. I went ahead and had her chew up her xanax that she was given for her panic attacks. This one was far worse than any she had had previously. She has had 7 panic attacks in 6 weeks. She is on prozac daily for this and xanax as needed...we only get 5 at a time though.and she has went through 3 in the last 10 days. Is this ever gonna let up? They just happen at random times, not really sure if any one thing is triggering them or not.

Hi kris and welcome to the group. This is a very active site so you will so get lots of good advice. As for my opinion...yes it will let up..is she seeing a doc? Does she know the deep breathing technique? There are lots of things she can do or you can show her how to do. The most important thing is to understand that panic will NOT kill you. I know thats a hard one to sink in but it will in time. Get her the profession help she needs and come here and share often....you will learn alot.

Welcome to the family.

Hello and welcome to our group please feel free to look around there is A LOT of things when it comes to panic

daily panic 2-4 attacks a day is common here and can be coped with- I would for SURE get her to join us here so she knows she is NOT dying, the she is NOT alone!!

Till then panic can be triggered by many many things and until she talks about them with you or a talk therapist to learn what is causing them, and what her triggers are like mine are my heart beating too fast (fear of a heart attack) racing thoughts, being alone, public places ect.....

It takes time and TALKING to people that GET IT and understand!

she recently seen her family doctor for it last week....and has had 3 since then...he put her on prozac.....and xanax to chew at the onset....last night this did absolutely no good. we were advised from the ER doc that she probably needed to see a psychiatrist. It was awful....I couldn't imagine feeling like I was goona dye...an impending doom and feel like its really coming after her. I felt so bad for her.

thanks Lean....she reports it as a hot flash coming over her, her heart racing......and basically she couldn't describe it.....just she "knew" she was gonna die....and that nothing was gonna stop her from dying. she was crying and hollering out, I have truelly never seen anything like it. they did give her 0.5mg ativan IV in the ER......and that is what took care of it. She had just woke up in the middle of the night with it.my mom had said she got frustrated a little earlier in the evening and became quite antsy....so i don't know if maybe that was a precursor or not

I feel bad for her too. Lee is right. She should come on here and just maybe read others stories. She doesn't have to talk if she doesn't want to but we are here to listen and help and like lee said we get IT.

That is usually how mine start..with the hot flash in the pit of my stomach, then it races thoughout my body, heart skipping and racing, dizzy, tingling hands and feet....off to the ER if I can't control them. It sucks but there is help for her.

njhoppe,

when she gets home later this evening I will set her up an acct on here...I think this could really help her....my daughter has been through a lot...she is a junior this year, very pretty makes straight A's, plays sports, great personality, and to see her like she was last night...she was terrified. i held her and told her it would be ok....she replied, "no it's not, I am gonna dye"

My main concern is the onset and frequency of them...and how this last one was much more escalated than the previous ones

Once she has a few "tools" to help herself, hopefully it won't be so escalated. These episodes are very scary, especially to a Mom. I'm a mom too and my daughter has had a few panic attacks. I was with her in the ER as she asked me is she was going to die. I told her of course not. The ER docs got her settled with meds, then I went out and had my own panic attack..lol...sure I can laugh now but there are not funny. They are REAL. Just take a look at how many members there are here. We all have panic attacks. We look forward to hearing from her hopefully tonight. Smile
