MDJunction to me

peasha"This has been one of the most supportive places I have ever been. I found MDJ by mistaking looking for drs to help me with my many health issues and since that day over a year ago I have found a tight nit little family that keeps me going when the times are tough and offers me a place of retreat to share my successes and failures with others. I get to see the humor and seriousness of what I experience as well as the resources to learn about my health conditions. Thanks MDJ" (peasha)

I was going through some old post and found this one and thought I would bring it back up for all our new comers its wonderful when put into practice...

Good things to remember...

1. Remember that although your feelings and symptoms are frightening, they are neither dangerous nor harmful.

2. Understand that what you are experiencing is merely an exaggeration of your normal reactions to stress.

3. Do not fight your feelings or try to wish them away. The more willing you are to face them, the less intense they will become.

4. Don't add to your panic by thinking about what "might happen." If you find yourself asking, "What if?" tell yourself, "So what!"

5. Stay in the present. Be aware of what is happening to you rather than concern yourself with how much worse it might get.

6. Label your fear level from zero to ten and watch it go up and down. Notice it doesn't stay at a very high level for more than a few seconds.

7. When you find yourself thinking about fear, change your "what if" thinking. Focus on and perform some simple, manageable task.

8. Notice that when you stop thinking frightening thoughts your anxiety fades.

9. When fear comes, accept it, don't fight it. Wait and give it time to pass. Don't try to escape it.

10. Be proud of the progress you've made. Think about how good you will feel when the anxiety has passed and you are in total control and at peace.

Wise words girl, had a mild panic on my lunch break, and did the slow belly breathing in my car for about 10mins. Put A/C on high and pop in relation cd, I'm not going to lie, I came close to taking a pill, but gave the breathing another 5 mins and it was gone. I just feel a little tired but back at work. Wink My negative thought during the panic attacks was "Oh no! this is going to get worse, what if, I can't get back to work? Then I stop my thoughts with positive and said, come on Phyllis you have gone through worse, you can do it, keep breathing slowly, it will pass and you will be fine. And I was Smile yay!

I'm new here too.

I recently heard and bought a book that closely mirrors the 10 rules. "Hope and Help for Your Nerves" by Claire Weekes.

It seems to be helping. I actually feel normal sometimes.

I have that book as well. Alot of good stuff I have found in that book. There are alot of books and programs available. I have used and read many over the years and have always been able to take something away from each one. Glad that one is working and helping you.

Welcome aboard! Smile
