My anxiety and panic came back really bad and I could not stop crying so I went to go see the county therapist to look at my meds yesterday. I have been taking Xanax for 12 years and my body is addicted to it and I was having bad withdrawls. anyway, they switched me over to Klonapin and switched my lexapro to a generic form of lexapro that works slightly different. so you know when you go on new meds and you have that jittery feeling and are very sleepy. Plus, I'm a bit freaked out about stopping my xanax after 12 years. I actually had to take one right now. The only reason I can just quit the xanax is because the klonapin is in the same class of meds. Then I think I'm nervous because if this does not work, then WHAT????? My anxiety is down compared, I just feel weird, and ofcourse I'm still not eating. I usually can finally eat a little something in the evening.

anybody else on Klonapin??????

I was on it for a little while back when I first started having my panic attacks, but now I take Ativan when needed. I'd say they're pretty much the same thing.

Isn't the not eating causing you to be jittery too?

I would say don't worry about the meds not working. I'm sure they will work for you, but if you get it in your head that they won't than you're going to feel worse even if they're working. Just try and give it some time.

Sandy

looking4hope... First of all meds are only a tool to use to get you on your feet... You have to learn how to understand how panic disorder works... We create the fear from the symptoms related from the anxiety... Yes the feeling caused by a panic attack are real but hold no harm to us...We continue to fead into these feelings allowing the anxiety and thoughts to grow into something thats never happens like we think... Klonopins are the same as Xanax but its longer lasting... What dose of xanax were you on???? I was taking a .5 once a day and only when needed... Son

I have been on Klonopin for 10 years and also Ativan (the Ativan is for quick-acting) whereas the Klonopin stays in your system longer. I can only tell you what my doctor told me about my meds which makes sense. I went to her one day and said my meds are just not working anymore and she said they are...you're mind/body is stronger than your meds. So basically when we are in full blown panic mode it doesn't matter what we take, our bodies are going to over-power those meds because our bodies/minds are stronger than any meds. And yes, the panic attacks are no harm, yet I know how much they stink - Lord know I know. I feel I'm too young to have this, it has taken over parts of my life where I have limited some things that I do and I hate it. All I can tell you is what I have tried and what works for me - exercise (cardio), breathing techniques, "quieting your mind", DISTRACTION!, relaxing CD's. I have nothing against male doctors yet I feel in women that the panic attacks/anxiety are related a lot to our hormones and the men just don't understand at times. Maybe this will at least make you laugh (which will help with anxiety)Before my current doctor I went to a male doctor (now please keep in mind that I was in his office with a full blow panic attack of hyperventilating breathing, sweaty palms, flushed skin, feelings of passing out...you name it) and I told him how I was feeling and what my symptoms were and he said, "Well when I get stressed I just go for a jog - did you try that"? I COULD HAVE KILLED HIM! Did he really think if I could just go for a jog and my symptoms would poof disappear that I would be sitting in his office feeling like a lunatic? I literally said to him and pardon my language but I said, You are sh*tting me, right? Then he said, "Well try a warm bath and hot tea." - AGAIN, EXCUSE ME!??!!! This man was insane and obviously had no idea what he was talking about because as you know if you take a warm bath then you might want to drown yourself at that time when you feel that bad and tea? With caffeine doc? Sure??? That is how I got my meds...I did some research and went back to him and said, "I don't want to hear any of your whacko ideas I want meds right now until I can get to a doctor who understands." The doctor I have now agrees with the meds that I chose - they're not for everyone and meds aren't for everyone, I think everyone should do what they feel is best to get through it but if it wasn't for the meds I don't think I could have gotten to the point of even coping or thinking about trying to get better. I wound up getting my Bachelor's in clinical psychology because I didn't want to turn out like that doc and look at people and tell them to just jog. However, I can tell you that he was right about the jogging in that exercise takes away that "extra energy" which is the anxiety. And once you're calm enough, yes the tea and warm bath help - but in the throws of a panic attack all I can tell you is to "quiet your mind." Whether that is breathing, CD's, getting out in the sunshine and closing your eyes and being in nature, whatever you find works for you. I wish you the best of luck and I think you'll be happy with the Klonopin - I had no side effects from it except drowsiness in the beginning which I was grateful for since I needed to calm down but that went away too and I don't get drowsy anymore from it. Good luck and know that we're all going through the same thing and we know how hard it is!
