Hello guys. i just want to ask something which bothers me a LOT lately. are panic attack sufferers proned to getting a heart attack? i'm really scared. i've read an article from Reader's Digest Asia (May 2008 issue) which says that if you've a panic attack, your risk for heart attack increases like four times. this adds to my stress and fear ten times. i've been trying really badly to calm myself if i'm having panic attacks thinking i'll be all right. but now that i've read that damned article, my panics get worse! my pulse rate reaches 120-140 bpm, my hands and feet are cold and damp, i feel uneasy and nauseated and i'm having trouble breathing.

Please help! i really want to beat this panic disorder so i can live normally without fear.

I don't know if that's true but I suppose it could be.

I also get nauseated, even throw up, yesterday I threw up was drenched in sweat, my hands and feet went numb, I felt like I was going to faint, it was awful! My meds got adjusted yesterday and I had some fear this morning because of my panic attack yesterday but I had to keep telling myself that was yesterday and my new adjustment on my meds are going to help me and I GOT THREW IT YESTERDAY AND DID NOT DIE, even know I'm afraid of it coming back!

best wishes,

This is a question I have asked my doctor before. For me, that question is usually followed by "how will I ever know if I am really having one if the symptoms are the same". Well...I don't know if he just likes to make me feel better or now, but according to him, no there isn't an increased risk just because of the panic attack. He also reminds me (often) that the difference between a panic attack and heart attack is that with the panic, i just think i can't breathe..with a heart attack, I really wouldn't be able to and people around me would pick up on that.
