Well, it's the countdown for when I leave for my trip. I leave on Friday. Actually, Friday is a huge day for me. My son is getting married on Friday (at the courthouse), we will have a small reception luncheon and then it's off on our trip, driving to Florida from Ohio. I'm feeling really anxious today in anticipation. I'm excited about everything, but I'm also anxious about the way I'll feel about going so far away from home. I don't want to be worrying about this right now, I still have four days, but I've been really anxious ever since I woke up. I just need to get a grip and not worry about the travelling until Friday. Any advice from anyone would be GREATLY appreciated!

Thanks.

Sandy

NOthing can take your anxiety away, but it's beautiful scenic views. It's end of spring beginning of summer, just look out the window and picture yourself skipping thru the fields with a slight breeze to your back and the pollen invading your sinuses. (sorry had to put that in).

That's what I did when we went on driving trips. Enjoy yourself that's what's most important.

Hi Sassy,

You could make a "comfort bag" with things in it to help with your anxiety. Bring things for:

1- relaxation - music, relaxation tapes, and herbal teas

2- comfort - stuffed animal, photos, and cards with poems, quotes and calming remimners.

3- distraction - books, puzzle books, journal, magazines, and portable computer games.

4- stimulation - a rubber band on your wrist, mints or tart candy, cold water, and upbeat music.

5- emergency - cell phone or change for a pay phone, small phone book of important numbers, extra money, medication and a blanket.

Start coping with your anxiety before you leave. Have your comfort bag packed days before because when anxiety hits people become forgetful. Try not to obsess about your anxiety because it will bring on more anxiety. Try to have a good time, a wonderful wedding for your son, and trip!!!!

I hope this helps a little. Your friend, Chris

Thanks Chris, yes it helps. I have most of what you've suggested packed already. It would be nice to be able to read in the car, but I'm one of those people who gets car sick if I'm not looking out the window, so that's out for me. I will just have to listen to my relaxation CD if I need to. The anticipation is what seems to be giving me trouble now... It's mainly excitement, but it feels a lot like the first feelings of panic, so that's why it's getting to me. Noramally this would be a good feeling, I think.

It's just hard right now & it's only Monday.

I hope that the wedding is wonderful and that you have a great time!!!

I'm glad you're ready to go and have everything you need. Do enjoy the sceenery and the fresh air as you're riding along. Enjoy some relaxing music and think about how wonderful it is that your son is getting married.

Oh, and bring a couple of extra plastic bags just incase.... You need them. LOL.... I get car sick too, so I do have a little bit of understanding of your situation.

I would be so excited too. How old is your son? Is this Your first child to get married?

Have a wonderful time.

Yes, he's my oldest. He's 23. My other two kids are 17 and 12, so they definately aren't married. LOL

Thanks for the input with this. I just want to get going so I can try to start dealing with going so far away from home. I'm confident the wedding & luncheon will be great, it's just the trip that's making me feels so.....anxious to a point where I feel I may lose control.

It's funny how being a panic attack survivor changes everything. Even joyful things that cause butterflies can be worrisome because of the common feelings involved. I hope this gets better with time. It would suck if I started dreading becoming excited about things! Life's too short!!

I hear you!!! Life is way to short!!! Yes they are too young to even be thinking of marriage! Mine are still young too. My oldest just turned 20 so I hope he doesn't have plans for marriage for awhile. My daughter is going to be 19 and she is in a serious relationship....I don't want her to get married yet either.

I've been going through panic attacks myself lately from stress.....I will post about it later.

I'm sure you will be okay! Is thhe family going with? They will keep you distracted! My kids have a way of doing that!

Try not to think about the trip part too much and concentrate more on the wedding....I know....easier said than done! It's just a suggestion!

I hope that you feel better!

Your Friend, Chris
