MDJunction to me

"In the 3 months I have been with MDJunction I have developed a sense of calmness. I now friends who do not judge me because I have been a mental mess at times. It is such a good feeling to have friends I can tell my deepest thoughts and always get back to me with their support. I have never seen a therapist for long periods of time. Right or wrong, this is the best therapy possible for me. Thanks Roy for getting this up and running and making such a difference in my life. Sara" (saralaurie)

Hi Linda,

To be honest, the worst thing that I remember about the surgery was that I was not sedated enough. They claim that they gave me enough sedation to knock-out an African elephant, but I don't know I remember literally sitting up on the table moaning/groaning almost screaming (I was a little grogy) out in pain telling the doctor how much it hurt as they tried to insert the pacemaker/defibulator. They stated because of my high constitution, I did not take the sedation well. Your case (as most) may be completely different. I needed my ICD because of arrthymia, atrial fib, low heart rate and blood pressure, due to dilated cardiomyopathy. I hope that you take the pacer. It can save your life! My difibulator has already fired once and if you are passing out, that surely is not safe. If you have questions, get a second opinion, but do something. Talk to ya soon--later.

I've joined the PAH support group because of my diagnosis of Borderline/Mild Pulmonary Hypertention. I also have multiple diagnosis such as Systemic Lupus (which is in remission-Praise God!), hiatal hernia, fibromyalgia, hypothyroidism (my thyroid has been removed),prinzmetal angina, tricuspid regurgitation, pulmonic regurgitation, and dilated cardiomyopathy (with a pacemaker/defibulator). With multiple health issues, I tire pretty easily, but people are very patient and understanding, and I praise God for this and all things.

The thought of it is probably scarier than the actual surgery, I think. Everyone is different, but my surgery was pretty uneventful. I had had a heart cath the day before and the pacemaker surgery in February was much easier. Afterwards it will feel like you have a brick hanging off the front of your chest for a while, but that will ease in time. Follow the restrictions your doc gives you and take the pain meds as you need them. It will feel very strange for a while, but eventually you will get used to it and feel better for having it. I had another surgery in June (prostate) and it was way worse. I'll take the pacer surgery anyday over that.

Welcome Linda! I had mine put in as an emergency. I had 1st and 2nd degree heart block, heart rate dipped to 20s. Anyway, they really didnt sedate me much, just something like Valium, no pain, but I was scared and it is COLD in there so ASK for a blanket if you are cold. Dont be afraid to tell them you are uncomfortable if you are. They are typically pretty nice. I had to have a re-do the next day and since I had gone through it I knew what I was up for, I hated the sheet over my face, touching it. SO I told them someone would have to keep if off my face, and they did a great job.

Good luck to you. Let us know how it goes!
