I was diagnosed with Osteoporosis when I was 38 years old. I always thought of it as an old person disease. Well guess what I was wrong. I had had a hysterectomy when I was 32 and even though at that time in my life I was healthy enough to excercise and I was put on HRT after the surgery I still developed it anyway. When I was first diagnosed I was very angry. "I'm too young for this" was all I could think. I was already being diagnosed with other life altering things(fibromyalgia) and now I had this other disease that again noone can "see" and it makes me feel like I should be ninety years old. So the point of all this is. Pay attention when your Dr. says it's time for a bone density test. Do it. It is one of the easiest test to do. It is not painful, there are no claustraphobia issues and they even put you on a basically comfortable table as far as testing goes. Most insurances will pay for one every two years. So if you had one and it was normal make sure you do follow ups at regular intervals. If you have questions or comments or expierences of your own please share them.

with the addition of some very young people here I think it really proves the point that young people can develop this disease. It also is not just a women's disease there are men who have been diagnosed with osteoporosis as well. If we have any men out there who are trying to decide if they should join the group I want you to know you are more than welcome to. this group is for anyone who has osteoporosis
