This summer marks 18 years of "The Headache". Yep, started when I was heading into my senior year of high school. I literally woke up one day with a headache and here I am 18 years later with that same headache. Only now my neck, shoulder, eyes, face, back, and arms hurt and I feel the pain slowly taking over my body.

Like most of y'all I have had a lot of treatments (nerve stimulator for the supraorbital nerve, botox, nerve injections, biofeedback, therapies, and tons of meds) never to any avail!

Next week, however, Duke wants to admit me for DHE 45 injections over the course of 3-4 days. Im not real sure how I feel about this or even if I am willing. Does anyone have an experience like this they could share with me, both the good and the bad? Im tired of trying things that make me feel worse either in the short term or long term but never affecting the pain for the better.

Thanks!

MoBird, my daughter had IV DHE as an in-patient over the course of several days. She had a lot of trouble with nausea right after each dose was administered, so they started giving her anti-nausea meds a half hour before the DHE.

While it didn't work for her, I have heard of others having good results with DHE -- and I understand that sometimes the big improvement can come several doses into the treatment, so don't lose heart if the first injection doesn't do much.

When do you start the treatment? Please let us know how it goes - we're pulling for you!

Did the anti nausea meds work? I have lost so much weight that I can't afford to not eat or worse throw up. I'm trying to maintain my weight and the thought of losing more scares me. It's one thing to feel bad but I dont want to look it too. Thank you so much for reading my post and responding. Every little bit of info I get certainly helps. I'll keep you updated. By the way, hows your daughter? Anything work for her?

Hi, MoBird! She did vomit the first time, but then they added the anti-nausea meds to the mix and she got very, very nauseous with each dose but didn't actually throw up. The nausea also seemed to pass rather quickly, within about a half hour of administering the DHE. Maybe your doctor will write the order for nausea meds in advance of each DHE dose right from the start. It couldn't hurt!

I will definitely make a request for the anti nausea meds up front!

Thank You!
