MDJunction to me

ThereseML"When I first came to MDJ, I was in need of peer support in dealing with issues of my childhood abuse. I was moving away from the painful issues and trying to find an uplifting group of people to help me transition to a thriver in my life. I found that here. I also found a group of peers with Fibromyalgia and found the same uplifting experience there. My computer crashed and it was a while before I found my way back, this time with issues related to Parkinson's Disease. I had tried a few other support sites before reminding myself of MDJ. On those, I never got a reply. I finally found my way back here and again found very supportive, caring and inspiring people who made me feel like I was 'back home'. Indeed I am." (ThereseML)

I am not a medical professional. I sufferered Occipital Neuralgia and had right and left occipital nerve release surgery in 2010.
Before surgery I would throw up almost daily from the severe dizziness and had severe light and sound sensitivity. I stayed in bed, curled up in the fetal position wishing I had the courage to kill myself. If I didn't take a cocktail of antiseizure, opiates and muscle relaxers I suffered hundreds of electric shock type pains per day in my head and had a constant migraine type pain 24/7 from july 2008. I lay grieving for my life that once was the friends who once were and the void in my future.
Right surgery 100% relief; left surgery, scarring grabbed a crown nerve and I had surgery again to relieve that june 2011. Surgery really helped but was left with daily migraines triggered by certain sound pitches making living in this noisy world very difficult

Kirsten, boy, are you right! I am in therapy now for the guilt I have of the effects this has had on everyone in my life. As if the stress if the pain wasn't enough!

Welcome Kirsten, I just wanted to chime in about what you mentioned about pain and how it affects not only us, but everyone around us. I know that it for sure has affected my family. It is very sad that learning to live with pain does because the new normal, but unfortunately, when you are in pain, you have to make the adjustment of learning to cope and do whatever is necessary to feel better. Again, welcome and please keep us posted on your upcoming surgery.

Sometimes the pain from O.N. can make you want to crawl in a corner and scream to the top of your lungs! So I've learned to cherish the good days when I don't feel like I have an ice pick stuck in my head!

It's definitely happening this Friday. I will keep you all posted. And as soon as I get a chance, I will properly introduce myself, too, lol. That, in and of itself, is a long story. Wink
Working toward a day without pain,
Kirsten

I would highly recommend using Dr. Guyuron if you have any way of getting out to Ohio. We live in New Jersey and went to see the doctor in New Jersey who was trained by Dr. G, and the difference in expertise between the two is quite substantial. We had to drive to Ohio several times before everything was resolved (7 hours in the car), but most of the doctors he trained only perform the initial surgery on (up to) 4 trigger sites on each side. After completing the first surgery, that's the end of the road for most of these doctors. Dr. G has several options to further treatment if you are not getting sufficient relief. Take a look at my post from the below link for the full story as it pertains to my wife's surgery. It is worth the extra investment (trust me, it's not like we can afford to keep taking trips out there) to take the trip to Ohio if you are truly dedicated to getting 100% relief.

HI! I hope you are still doing well after your surgery. I have an appointment with Dr. Lee Dellon of the Dellon Institute in MD in a few weeks. Do you know of anyone who has seen him and/or had the nerve decompression surgery done by him?

He doesn't accept insurance, and my insurance will not reimburse me for the consult or surgery. Just interested in seeing if any members have used this practice. Thanks!!
