You're absolutely right Nonny, something does "light up inside". My dad & both grandfathers were alcoholics, I can't stand the taste of alcohol, but my addictions lie elsewhere. You would be surprised how much of us is genetically predisposed.

Then there are illness, i.e. cancer. We all have it in our bodies. What makes it start growing in some people and in other stay dormant their entire lives? My father-in-law died from his second bout with prostate cancer. Because of the high genetic predisposition, and thankfully we have good doctors, even though my husband's PSA count wasn't abnormally high, because of the family history (older brother had it too), they did a biopsy & sure enough, late 40s, he had prostate cancer.

His was also, unlike the usual prostate cancer, unusually aggressive and fast growing. He had surgery to remove it (prostate), it had already started to spread, all the nerves on the right side had to be removed. Thank God he is now cancer free and also, against the odds, made a complete 100% recovery. I know I'm off topic, LOL, just had to add this.

When I eat proper and stay clear from simple carbs the un controlable night eating isn't the beast that it is other wise, sure habit plays in to a degee after years of it, but for me there is much more to it than just a habit, there is something pysicaly playing in.

Stinger, I am in total agreement with your posts and feel like I'm on the same page with you. Doing pretty good last couple of nights one bowl of grapenuts the last couple of nights, just thankful its not 10 bowls. Walked for 40 minutes last night. LaraJean, I know you are thankful your husband is cancer free. My dad got prostate cancer when he was 57. He went went with radiation pellets. Although radiation "burned him up" he is 75 yrs old now and takes the estrogen shots once a month. The man works out every single day at the gym next door, still rides his motorcycle, just amazing. I wish I knew what caused it. I just know that its been bad the past year, but for years now, even if I fall asleep for 15 minutes, the first thought on my mind when I wake is food. This makes me think something isn't "wired" right.

Depression and a lot of other mental disorders are now associated with not receiving enough seratonin (sp), that's why Prozac, etc. made such a huge debut in the medical field.

Why do I do this and none of my siblings? No one else in my family? My husband, who I've lived with 24 years? Why do I have this? To me it has to be connected with my obsession with weight, when I think back I gauge time with how much I weighed at the time. Not normal I don't think.

Sorry for the rambling, I just got up from yet another disappointing night.

Funny, I gauge time the same way. Last week I bought some 5HTP, 100 mg. Tried it and backed off because I already take low dose of zoloft but I am going to try 50 mg and see how i feel then. you might try it early in the day (it kept me awake but did seem to elevate my mood my daughter too) then some melatonin. if you are like me then dont take sleeping pills or xanax thinking it will help cuz you will wake up more often with way less resistance than you even have now. Since you have been married 24 years i'm thinking your in your 40's. Those dang hormones probably arnt helping either. Welcome to my world. Ha

Hi LaraJean,

You just descibed my very thoughts..........before I go to bed, when I wake up etc, etc, etc. I get up within 15 minutes or 1/2 hour of going to bed and then it's an "ongoing vicious repeating cycle" throughout the night.

Last night was another "very bad night" for me. I ate SO MUCH that I felt sick to my stomach in the morning. I felt like a disgusting fat pig! I got up 5 times!!!

Hormones may play a part as well. Even though I've been told that I'm not pre-menopausal. I can only hope that tonight is a little better than last.

I don't have unrealistic expectations...........only hope.

Thanks for sharing and listening............

Here's the link again:

The way I look at it, any information can be useful, right? Have a great night Troubled, get some sleep, that's where I'm heading, to watch "Lost" on the DVR, one of my favorite shows, have never missed an episode and don't intend to. LOL

You bring tears to my eyes, because I literally can feel your pain.

Thank You, thank all of you for listening and sharing, this is almost surreal, reading posts that I could have actually written, communicating with wonderful people who know EXACTLY what I'm going through. What a great feeling knowing we're not alone.

Now we can say "I know how you feel" because we really do know. It's not just comforting words and that makes a huge difference. I'm thinking finding this site might just be the turning point for me, I remain very hopeful.
