For me it is just about keeping this thing under control.. when it was at it's worst I would wake up where with my head spun and there was only one fix for it.. gorge until I could eat no more .. usualy on high Carb stuff.. then this would set off a chain reaction where I would get up every hr or so up to 4-5 times a night.. sound familular?

What works for me is basicly a diet for hypoglycemia which means eating through the day .. simple carbs (high surgar) whacks me and fires this thing up... I also stay away from breads, pastas, anything like that which turns to sugar.

OK so as long as I do everything right .. I'm pretty good most of the time..at night I take 5 mg of Melatonin and I'm good ( 5-HTP works well also).. I still wake up..but I am in control of my senses thanks to the melatonin.. and then I down some oatmeal (no surgar) which puts me down for the rest of the night.

When I do have a bad night I know it's coming because only because I blew my eating habit.. the next day I just pick up at start over again .. but I get some protein in me regardless of how I feel about eating...it is all about getting back on track.

This is my program.. hope someone gets something out of it.

Scott

PS I also keep the garbage food out of the house !

Thanks for the tips-it makes sense to keep blood sugar under control to tame cravings-I never thought of that before!! I guess I can't eat it if it's not in the house!!

Hope it helps .. my nes is pretty much a non issue any more .. at least as long as I keep clear of what fires it up.

Eating sugar makes one crave more sugar. I have also found that the more sugar I eat during the day...the more I'm eating at night. A high protein diet seems to be the way to go.

One of the best new foods I have found is the Morning Star Farms products. They are meatless - soy based, but taste wonderful. I love their grillers (which taste just like hamburgers), their chik patties & nuggets (which taste just like chicken), the sausage patties (not links) and their garden veggie burgers. I fry these items up in a little bit of extra light olive oil. I have found that these food items keep me fuller longer and that I do not need to continuously eat to feel full.

I'm a diabetic and I agree with what you said. If I stick to my diabetic diet during the day, night time is easier. But if I'm lazy during the day, I pay for it at night, and of course the next day.
