Hi Guys,

yes Stinger, u r right, sugar imbalances the 'normal' sugar levels in our blood stream. When any sugar is eaten, pancreas overproduces insulin hormone which is sent to the bloodstream to regulate this elevated sugar levels. The more sugar is eaten, the more insulin is sent. The more insulin is sent, the more it's trying to push the sugar levels down as this is its role to do. That is also the reason why we have cravings after eating sweets and want more. In my case, the more sweets I eat, the more I crave them. So when sweets eaten, I crave them again in the middle of the night terribly. If no sugar at all is consumed, in my case, cravings are reduced remarkably and later disappear completely.

I have my sinned days and have a chocolate once a month or so. This chocolate immidiately triggers my NES straight away that night and I am up and raiding the fridge Sad

Sugar is not only decaying teeth a lot, it has got no nutritional value whatsoever, it's an empty boost of calories storing fat very quickly.

I am trying to give it up completely, but it's a lenghty process requiring strong discipline and will power. It's like with cigarettes. One needs to say no to his self.

One think is for sure with me, the less sugar in ANY form I consume, the less NES to fight off there is.

Best of luck to all

vladi

Right on Vladi, I have found exactly the same thing, plus I can't do any carbs from late afternoon on or I WILL pay the piper, as long as it is nothing but green vegies and meat, poultry or fish I am ok, but also it is important to eat correctly through the day.

I have been useing sweetners but after reading here I will eliminate them also , which is no big deal.

I read what you are saying about sugar. I've never thought about it. after reading this though I've tried to stop drinking the diet pepsi that I drank right before going to bed and it helps a little. I now try to drink a glass of water. So one thing at a time and I know how it is to want a cig. I quiet last year and it was the hardest and now I have realize with NES that I have struggled with it for about 9 maybe 6 years it just didn't bother me because I was smoking. Now that I haven't smoked It's something I realized that I struggle with and need to work on as well.

I've never seen any improvements based on a specific diet. I've tried so many different approaches. The reality is if I were awake, in my right mind and concious then I would never eat anything wheter it's a carb or a piece of friut. UGH!!

This struggle is heal....I'm growing tired! Physicaly tired is one portion. Then you have the mental aspect that makes me crazy just thinking of how to beat this demon to death.

So I'm trying to cut down on my sugar. I have a new thing that I won't eat anything sweet 2-3 hours before I go to bed. I don't know if it's working. It's only been a couple of days so I'm sure you won't see a difference. yeah I will try everything at this point.

When did you see a difference.

My sister was a diabetic so she used to test my blood sugar levels when I would wake up to eat...my blood sugar did not drop enough to through me into crazy driven state to eat. That's where a lot of people think protein helps because it sticks with you. I've trie that too! I've tried eating enormous meals before bed too. LOL

I'm wondering if the dr.s really know enough about NES or SRED. It seems like SRED is classefied as a parasomina...and NES is more a sleep eating disorder. Rather im a awake or not I know it's a weird...crazy urge that seems to take over like a demon! goooooood grief.

Yes...please share. I'm willing to eliminate anything that would help.

Do you thinking smoking helps this situation. Because years ago I smoked...and still had these damn episodes of raiding the kitchen. Wink

I'm praying for us all....a better more peaceful type of life. Stress definitely triggers the frequency of my up at night eating episodes.

It's so frustrating because I'm trying to study for my LSAT right now.

Take Care,

Dawn

I don't know if dr actually know enough about this at least not yet. I'm going to see someone in May about this whole thing. I wish I could take everyone with me.

No I don't think smoking helps this situation because I quite about a year ago and still had the problem. I think though when you smoke you don't really pay attention to other things you have been doing to release stress (I don't know if that makes any sense.

Does anyone fall asleep and minutes later you wake up and have to eat. This happens to me a lot. and then it happens maybe 2 more times through out the night.
