MDJunction to me

aTinaL"To me, Mdjunction comes down to motivation. The support and information I have found here motivated me to take a very proactive stance regarding my illness. This led me to find medication and doctors that are giving me my life back.
More important than even the motivation, though, is the friendship I have found at MDJ. I have made some of the best friends of my entire life right here in this group. Even though most of us have never met, it feels as if we have known each other for years.
If Angels walk among us, and I believe that they do, most of them are here at MDJ.

you started off too big a dose .. try again.. start with 25 mg at bed time.. drink lots of water during the day stay on 25 mg for 2 weeks then increase to 50 you will find the dose that works best for you.. for me 50 works best it does not stop the NES but it helps a lot...

i have a bit of numbing in fingers and toes and i am a bit jumpy but i am use to it and i have energy and feel happier i prefer it over the way i felt.. it takes about a month until you level off.. stay on 25 mg for a month.. then increase.. hey you have to start off slow in my opinion.. try that and let me know..

Did you start off at 25 mg? My dr. didn't know what dosage to put me on being that this RX is for migraines, not usually prescribed for this sort of thing. He assumed 50 mg would be adequate but I'll take your advice and split the pill in half at night. Hopefully then it will wear off enough over the course of the night where i dont feel tired and like a zombie the whole next day!!

Oh, i am taking this in addition to Zoloft. I was prescribed 50 mg of Zoloft, but the other day i was in my sisters bathroom and noticed her pill bottle for Zoloft said 50 mg 3x a day! I didn't know they would ever prescribe such a high dosage! I asked her if that was correct and she said yes. She is thin and has no eating issues whatsoever and it helps with her depression and anxiety. So i have upped my dosage on my own, the past 2 nights i have taken 75 mg at night and another 25 during the day, and have had no negative effects, and although i have still eaten at night, both nights i craved FRUIT of all things, and at 4 or 5 oranges and an apple! A fruit binge is a lot better than the typical cookie or peanut butter binge! lol

well my doctor is a specialist in this field and i too was on zoloft and he made me come off zoloft so you need to come off that slowly thats what i did he started me on 25 mg of topamax once i was almost done with zoloft my mood swings were tough for about a month i felt horrible i won't lie to you but after i got through that and off the zoloft completely i felt way better .. he did not want me on both! my doctor is a sleep specialist who specializes in sleep disorders and also see's many patients with our disorder NES and he said that although it does not cure the problem and does not work for everyone he has found it to be something that helps give you that fight you need... remember you have to work on behaviour modification too.. you can do it .. listen every night i fight with my demons.. and yes the fruit is better than the cookes or peanut butter... what a horrible addiction we go through isn't it! i am only about 20 pounds over weight but still it stops me from getting it off... i work out to compensate for the damange i do .. but i am slowly getting better and i plan to fix this i really do .. keep me posted and good luck

Has your Dr. found Topamax to be successful in his other patients with NES? I'm going to do what you suggest and take the 25 mg, I really hope it helps. I know that self control and behavior modification are very important, i just need medication to help with that strong impulse i get to eat "in order to go back to sleep".

I found that what works for me is not having peanut butter/cookies/jelly at my house! I make a bunch of sugar free jello & thats what gets me through the night without feeling guilty!! Smile

If my wife buys any of those things I just have her take it to work that way its all not gone by the morning! Smile

You are not alone. You are out of control and feel helpless, because I do the same damn thing, and have on and off most of my life. Like you, I used to run 5 miles a day to compensate. I don't do that anymore, which is why I weigh 160 pounds. I went to see a psych and she didn't seem to know anything about NES. Apparently I was her first patient with it. She prescribed Prozac and Wellbutrin. It worked pretty well but I couldn't stand the side effects (lack of libido (which is why she prescribed the Wellbutrin, and from the Wellbutrin, TOTAL insomina!) So, I stopped taking them about a month and a half ago. The good news is that I got my libido back--the bad news is that my ass is getting to be the size of Texas. I just ordered a book on Amazon by a Dr. Allison. She is supposedly an expert on it. Let me know how the Zoloft works for you. I tried it also years ago, and it made me very unemotional. I coudln't cry. Lately, mky whole sleep pattern is crazy. I wake up at 2 AM thinking it's time to get up, only to look at the clock and get frustrated. I'm so tired all the time. There has to be something that works.
