It's been 3 weeks since Lisa's surgery. Today we saw, Dr. Blake, her neurologist. She said all of Lisa's symptoms are normal for her recovery time and that it's "way too soon" to determine the full results. She explained that it just takes time for the nerves to recover from the surgery and also from being compressed for such a long time. For now, her headache is ranging from a 2-5/10 and can be lowered some with Toradol. (Today she prescribed Ultram.) This in itself is a big improvement from the sharp pounding headache that stayed around a 7 or 8/10 and effected most of her head. We were a bit concerned last week when she started waking up with the headache and the Toradol wouldn't get rid of it completely as it did the week after her surgery. But after our visit with Dr. Blake today, we are relieved and encouraged and we will try to be patient to wait the next two months to determine the full effect of the surgery.
October 7, Lisa had her second nerve decompression surgery, this time on the nerves on the front of her head.

I guess I have nothing new regarding treatments to add here...just thought I'd say what works for me. I have tried many different meds, but none really helped much for my Occipital Neuralgia, except Amitriptyline, although it made me so sleepy. The only thing that has worked well is the nerve block. I've been having O.N. blocks for the last 12 months, and they have often lasted 2 months or more!

I am glad you have been able to find things that have worked so well for you! Two months sounds WONDERFUL to me right now.

I added your screenname after the things you mentioned so that if people have questions about a particular thing they can look up a member who has experience with it. In your case, they can ask you about occipital nerve blocks or Amitriptylene. I don't know if anyone is actually doing that, but they could if they really want information (and I would if I was considering nerve blocks. I would be so nervous I would want all the details I could get). Thanks for posting your experiences.

Namenda has worked miracles on my sons daily headaches. He takes 10 mg three times a day. The same time every day. His headaches are at a minimum now.

My daughter took Zanaflex 4 mg 3x/day for a while the kept decreasing it...2x/day...just at bedtime...until she just stopped taking it. She would also take long naps every day and she got tired of missing out on the little bit of life she has on facebook.

Weel, I finally decided to try something completely different. I am still taking the Zanaflex 2mg every 4 hours and 16mg at bedtime. My doctor tried me on Thyroid meds, that lasted 4 days. I was so messed up by those I got off. Then he tried me on some antidepressents, once again, could only tolerate for about 5 days.

Yesterday, I had sinus surgery. I have been seeing an ENT for a while and he did a CAT scan and said that my sinus passages were very narrow and that I had a deviated septum.

So yesteray was my big day. He fixed the deviated septum, widened the sinus canal and cleaned out my sinus cavity. During all of this he found a rather large polyp that could be the cause of my headaches as well as the lining of the sinus cavity being quite swollen.

I was told it would take about 3 wks to know if any of this worked. In the meantime, I am very swollen (even my jaws), have a killer headache (duh!) which is taking a ton of painkillers to even tolerate, a bloody nose and very dry mouth. But other than that, I am keeping my fingers crossed that this worked. Will let you know more later.

FP99 - I'm new and going through all the postings.

I see you had a polyp removed shortly before the

holidays. How are you doing now?
