Has anyone ever tried Homeopathic treatments for NDPH??? I have pondered this for a while. We used homeopathic treatment with my husband when he had carotidynia---a migraine like syndrome of the carotid artery-through the neck into the eye (rare!and difficult to treat!!! Elavil didn't work. He lived with it for 6 yrs, tried homeopathic treatment and it went away!!!) We also had used it with our twins for reflux/colic when they were little with GREAT results. We are hesitant right now, since she is on Sansert. but..it isn't going to interact negatively w/any meds. It may work. Just wanted to run it by everyone here and see if anyone has ever used homeopathy as a natural remedy. I'm not sure what we will do. Just pondering the idea!!!

I will let ya know what we decide!!!

I tried homeopathic remedies. Unfortunately I was allergic to the herbal stuff the lady my Dad found had (that was the part I thought might help) and the "energy remedy" (she kept accidentally calling it medicine and having to correct herself) didn't do anything. The only things I would be concerned about is if anything they give her has stimulant properties and if she has allergies.

The lady I went to assured my sister and I we would not be allergic (her machine said so) and told us to take three tablespoons of the herb stuff in a glass of juice. I went home and started with half a teaspoon and reacted to it. I was extremely glad that I did not believe her machine or I would have been in the ER. I don't know exactly what I was allergic to since it was an herbal blend of like 15 different things. Anyway if your daughter doesn't have a history of allergies you are probably not going to have a problem with that, but it is something to be aware of if she does.

Interesting that your husband had a rare headache disorder (admittedly a different one) that was successfully treated homeopathically. I wonder if there is some connection to NDPH? I think given your family's success so far it is worth looking into, especially if whoever helped your husband get better is still around.

The headache specialist has found his history interesting as well, though they don't see a connection since it is a different type. (?)

Homeopathic and Herbal are totally different from each other! There are no stimulant mechanisms to it and it either works or does nothing. I would not try the herbal therapy on my child...I think she is too young and there are too many horror stories out there----and she does have allergies!!! And, with her tachycardia issues, I'd be scared to risk that!!!

I contacted a homeopath and he is interested in helping. I need to contact our headache specialist and see if he agrees to us trying it at this point. My cousin, a pharacist, also does homeopathic medicine and recommended BellaDonna. I may try something. I'll let ya know! Thanks for your reply!

I know very little about homeopathic except for my experience with that one lady, and she may have been mixing a number of different types of treatments together for all I know.

I am glad you are careful with the allergy issue. The herbs might have helped for all I know if it weren't for that. I never got the chance to find out.

I am not too worried about what you would try with your daughter because of how closely you watch her when you start new things. I think you would catch any problems very quickly. Though of course running it by the headache specialist is always a good idea.

How did the homeopathic treatment work? I'd love for melanie to try something non invasive. We've successfully used other homeopathic treatments for other things over the years. But they'v been mostly over the counter things. Do you have a good homeopathic practicioner?

It may take BgcMom a while to respond...I think her daughter may have gone inpatient Friday (don't know if she actually did or not, but it was a possibility). I have no idea how long they were talking about keeping her.

(((SMCCANN))) She didn't respond to the homeopathic treatment. I do know one in Denton and he is awesome! Call me and I'll let ya know about him. We didn't try everything he was suggesting that we try another one...but he ordered it and didn't have it on hand until just now, and we are going in on Monday. (((Mary))) we thought we were going on Thursday, but he opted to wait until Monday so he could send us to the hospital he wants her in! So, come Monday, we will be inpatient.

Thanks. We're really looking for the less invasive treatments first. On Thursday, we've got an appt with another MD for a 2nd opinion on the heavy metals removal. I think that the thought of all docs and meds trigger stress and intensify the headaches.

Hi,

Out of curiosity, what type of herbal/homeopathic medicine have you used. Also, what is the difference between herbal and homeopathic medicine?

I tried an herbal nasal spray once for headaches- it contained cayeene pepper- I started throwing up immediately after taking it. This was at a pain clinic and after that incident, the nurses refused to give it to me. The nasal stuff was basically pepper spray squirted in the nose. Hossible.

pain free days,

sailingm

Homeopathic medicine has been around for about 200 years. It is based on the law of similiars: Like cures like. For example, I'm very allergic to poison ivy. When I have been exposed I take a homeopathic remedy for poision ivy. It contains a small amount of the toxin that has been diluted 1000 times then shaken. The resulting mixture is diluted 1000 times again (my numbers may be an exaggeration but you get the point). The end result is that the remedy only takes on the shadow of the toxin. The magnetic field of the molecules have been changed. Your body can work through this much like with an immunization and conquer the problem. So it's very effective if you get the right thing. We've had great luck with homeopathic remedies for teething, colds, earaches and poison ivy. It worked for stomach ache for short term. Homeopathic remedies are more accepted and widespread in Europe.

Herbal medicine uses herbs. Chamomile for upset stomach, Ginko Bilboa for clarity of thought, etc. It is thought of as folk medicine. The herbs can vary strength depending on the methods of growing and harvest and processing. The herbs may be used as teas, tinctures or in capsules.

This is a pretty simplistic explanation for some big catagories, but I hope it helps.
