My neuro decided to try me on Abilify (aripiprazole, an atypical antipsychotic/neuroleptic.) Since I started the med 8 days ago, I've had trouble sleeping - I fall asleep easily, but wake up after 5-6 hours and feel too alert to get back to sleep, but with less than 7-8 hours of sleep my head is terrible. I'm also having issues with tachycardia (resting heart rate has been running 94-114; normal for me is around 80.) Has anyone else had similar problems? If so, how long after starting the Abilify did they start? I've already called my neuro to let her know, and she sent back a message saying that she doesn't think the Abilify can cause these side effects this early in therapy, and to keep taking it and titrating the dose upwards. (Tachycardia and insomnia, but not specifically early awakening, are definitely side effects, but again, she's saying not at a 5 mg dose, and I don't have experience with anyone who's been on Abilify. I've also been having lots of severe pain, which could be contributing to increased heart rate, and am on another med that can also cause tachycardia, making me wonder if the effects might be additive.) With the lack of sleep and increased pain, it's been a very difficult week. Thanks in advance if anyone can provide their experience. |
