Hi all,

I know a few people have tried acupuncture, and it helps some and not others.

Just wanted to let those of you who like it know that following some success with acupuncture (it reduces my pain level significantly for a few days) I bought an electro-acupuncture machine called a Stimplus Pro, which is basically a TENS machine for using at acupuncture points. Much cheaper than continuing to fork out for twice weekly acupuncture sessions as I was before!

They're made by a company called Bodyclock

and although they are expensive, mine has already paid for itself. And they have a money-back guarantee if after three weeks trying it you don't like it after all.

Also they give you a little booklet showing where to use it for things apart from localised pain eg. appetite control, which is good for those of us going on a New Year's diet!

Thanks for the info! My daughter is scared of Accupuncture, but likes the TENS unit, just can't use it on head area, so she might benefit from this, we are going to look at the link. Thanks!

You can use this on the head, though I find it can sting even on the lowest setting.

In acupuncture, a pain response like that indicates that the needle is in the right place and is working! (So I can see why your daughter isn't desperate to try it.) With my acupuncturist, in the first few sessions when she tweaked the needles in my hand and I'd get a pain running up my arm, I was not keen, but as soon as I noticed that the more 'response' I got, the better it would lower the pain in the next few days, I would get all disappinted if it didn't hurt more! I started to want bad pain during acupuncture because the payoff was really good.

Using this pen on the hands (which have a good pain point right in the middle of the fleshy part between thumb and first finger - you may have to push the pen firmly to get at it) it only tingles a little bit, and there are also points along the shoulders and back of the neck which are good ones if you're daughter doesn't want to try the head. It still works on those other points, and it shouldn't hurt at all. I'm a 'response' junkie now! and have been going for the strongest points on the head with good results.

One more thing - it can take a little practice to find the right points with the pen. It beeps a higher tone as you get closer, but the point itself is quite small, so if you move it too fast you'll have difficulty locating it. Slow and steady is the answer. Lots of luck!
