I have recently been seeing a new neurologist he has suggested I start taking Topomax (100mg twice daily) and he has also given me Zomig at the onset of headaches? Does anyone has any suggestions or has anyone been succesful?

I tried Topamax last year and had bad side effects with it. I expereinced severe depression and felt like I was on pins and needles all the time. I just felt out of it all the time. I think I was taking too high of a dosage though. Andwoo seems to have had great success with it so I am going to talk to my dr. about trying it again at a lower dosage.

I really don't recall what the dosage was. It was the first med they put me on when I was diagnosed - it was over a year and a half ago. I thought my headache would be gone by now!!

Well we have to stay positive, I know the feeling I have been battling for 3 yrs now and they are more severe and frequent. I have even tried narcotic pain meds and nothing.

He has you taking 100mg twice a day to start out with??? That's crazy. You should be going up much more slowly than that. I started out at 25 mg a day, then each week went up another 25mg, and basically, I can handle 125mg, at 150, it made me too emotional and I lost too much of my appetite.

also, I wouldn't say I've had great success with it, I've had some success. I think it has mostly gotten rid of my nausea and it has helped reduce my headache pain a little. So, that's certainly a plus. Great success would be no more headaches!

Talk with your doctor, but if he had you start at 200mg, ask him why he did that. That's not normal. The two neurologists I've been to have both said you start at 25mg and work up very slowly, 25mg a week at most, because of the potential for side effects. Your body needs to adjust to the medicine, and some people can't handle the side effects at all, even at low dosages. It can have cognitive side effects. It's not safe to just stop the drug either, you need to taper down if you're going to stop.
