It is terrible to find a med that works for the headache but has such bad side effects you can't take it. I hope the new med will work for you without causing so much trouble.

Shannon~

I know you are hurting right now and seeking comfort. I'm so sorry you are having to suffer right now. Hold on to HOPE!!! I know you are tired and weary from this and have been through so much, so please be aware of your emotional state! Chronic pain does make people have issues with bouts of depression, that otherwise they may not have expressed/felt. Sometimes it helps to talk about it. As much as everyone here wants to help each other and support each other through the site, sometimes real in-person support from a professional is in line. I hope you will consider this. Sometimes the meds they put chronic pain sufferers on is enough to make you sad and want to die...sometimes the pain itself is enough to....sometimes you feel all alone in your battle----you aren't. I do hope you will find the comfort, peace and reassurance you need.

As far as going back on the Prednisone, I wouldn't. It's not advisable since it seems you had an allergic reaction to it. (Predinsone in itself can have depressive tendencies to it too). I would think th e Neuro/Opthamologist may can give some suggestions. I do think you have a lot of things going on right now and that can be overwhelming, and when rest doesn't come easily, things are exacerbated greatly. Incresingly in your posts, I know you are searching for answers and ready to get your life back. That is a normal response to what all you are going through! I am praying that you find some help for all that you have going on and that you will know if/when you need to seek further help and where to find that help. It is hard when the only support you have is in the "on-line" community...and it isn't always enough. With everything in your life, stress can get the best of anyone!

I hope you feel better soon!

Many hugs sent your way!!!

Hi Shannon, I am sorry the med roller coaster (as I see it) is being so terrible for you right now. You are getting thrown all over the place from one thing to the next without a minute to adjust to what is coming next or a chance to brace for it. I am glad you have good family and friends to go through it with you at least. I hate that typing messages is the best we can do...((big hugs)).

There are still a lot of options out there that may work a lot better for you than the Prednisone did...that swelling could eventually get to be a huge problem if it kept getting larger and larger so I don't think I would try that again even though it may seem like a good option just to stop the pain.

I too will pray the neuro/ophthalmologist will have good ideas. I am all for the counselor idea too...but of course I would be (I used to be one of those in my before-headache life). I must get off now. My cat insists on trying to type. It is very very annoying.

Oh, no there are more meds to try but they may be strange ones. You have touched most classes of meds now, but may have only tried one med from the class. You may be running out of on label migraine meds, but some of the ones you have already tried aren't on label (amitiptyline and verapamil at least). There are still lots of anti-depressants (there are tons of these, actually a number of different kinds of antidepressants even), meds for nerve pain or seizures (lyrica, neruontin, depakote ect.).

There are also more beta blockers (like inderal) and calcium channel blockers (like verapamil) and stuff like that, though I don't know the names since I haven't taken many of those. They may even have you try an atypical anti-psychotic (I take Seroquel and I love it, it helped the most of anything for me). There are a lot more meds out there...Depakote is not your last hope for this thing.
