I had a follow up appointment with my family doctor and found out my neuro gave me meds that I should of never been on. When I asked him about why he put me on them he said nothing and I mean nothing. I have been a patient of his since November. I got no relief, actually I am worse. I have explained this to him, he put me on hydromorphone2mg Told me to wear a neck brace(as often as I want) and use numbing cream this last appointment.

He did two injections on the base of my neck. The appointment before that he did them under my right ear,These were done after I explained they where tried at the other hospital and they did not work.(the other hospital told me they could not help me)

This last appointment he xrayed my neck as I layed on block under my stomache. He said the xray showed a vertabra almost collapsed. I asked why I did not show up in the MRI I was given? He seemed surprised and asked who gave me a MRI. I told him You order them . He told me to wait in the waiting room until I got called back.

I called his office yesterday because of the pain and he did not return my call until i called today. A few hours later the nurse called back and informed me that he would not change anything. It takes two weeks for new medicine to work. I never heard of it taking that long for pain medicine to work.

My family doctor thinks I should see someone from John Hopkins. I don't want to Keep jumpin doctor to doctor. Any advice would be great.

Thanks.Ermm

I am seeing a bunch of red flags with this doctor, though I know what you mean about doctor hopping. Giving you the x-ray when he had already sent you for an MRI and not knowing he sent you for an MRI is a big one for me. That should be in your chart and it isn't like you have been going there long enough for it to be way in the back of the chart. Not to mention you are paying for those unneeded x-rays.

I don't know what med he had you on that your other doctor didn't think you should have been on to know if it was really dangerous, useless, or a difference in approaches. If it was something dangerous (like having bad reactions with other medications you are taking or other conditions you have) then I would get a new doctor immediately, particularly since he wouldn't explain what he was doing, which may mean he didn't know what he was doing or that it was an error. I would think if he had made an informed choice to use a med in spite of some interactions he would be able to tell you why (my doctors all can and have, but generally before we do it).

As far as the medicine taking two weeks to work. Maybe they are talking about the injections, but from what I have found online hydromorphone is supposed to reach peak plasma levels in 30-60 minutes, definitely not a two week drug.

I think I would at least want to get a copy of my medical records from them so I could see what is in them and how organized or disorganized they are.

My doctor family doctor had me on iron pills for anemia and the nero put me on Fioinal. They were defently talking about the hydro taking that long to work. They said it was a new medication he prescribed me and it takes time to work. I talk to someone today about this doctor. I was shocked about what I was told. I was told He likes to get you hooked on pills to keep you comming back even if you don't need them. I don't know for sure if what they said is true but it's not sitting well with me.

My child has an appointment with our family doctor and I'm gonna ask her about it on Monday and see what she thinks or I might call the office and ask her opinion on Friday.

I just don't know where to go from here.

If you want to confirm information about a medication, call a pharmacist and ask them how long it takes for this medication to get to its peak effectiveness (don't mention that your doctor said anything about it at all). They should be able to answer that pretty quickly for you since it is not a hard question for a pharmacist. Then you will at least know if the doctor's office is giving you correct information.

Personally if you have had that many things happen already in 4 months that make you uncomfortable with the neuro, and you are finding that his reputation is not good, I would look for someone else even if it makes the doctor trail a little longer. Especially if it turns out that you are getting incorrect information (which I don't really know, I have never heard of the med and all my info is from the internet...not the most reliable source...a pharmacist is much better).

I think I would try whoever your family doc wants to get you in with (provided of course that you can get in and insurance covers it and important things like that work out).

I wouldn't worry about "jumping from doctor to doctor" until you find a good one. In the past three years my daughter has seen eight neurologists! You will know when you find the best one. Sometimes even when you have a good doctor and you have seen him for awhile it is good to see a new doctor who might have some different ideas to try.
October 7, Lisa had her second nerve decompression surgery, this time on the nerves on the front of her head.

I'm from New Jersey, do that might be why I have a violent streak, but it a doctor put me on a med that I shouldn't have been on and then said literally nothing in response; I kick his teeth in. That's one for the malpractice lawyers.

Ok, maybe I wouldn't really kick his teeth in, but he remember me and my verbal beating for a long time. I would go and find a new doctor ASAP and I'd let whoever referred you to the other one what happened.

When it comes to your well being, NEVER let anyone make you feel uncomfortable about finding that one doctor that actually helps. And when you do find the 'one', come back and tell who and where!

You deserve a good doctor just like the next person. I wouldn't feel bad about switching. It is a pain to start all over again, but when you find the right one, it'll be worth it.

My advice is purely personal. I am not a Doctor and nothing I say should be a substitute for getting proper medical diagnosis and advice.

You deserve a response from any doctor. You do not always have to agree and I am with lisasmom, we have all been to lots of doctors but hopefully we have now found the last one and we can stay there. Good luck!

pixiedust,

The first neuro, whom I saw for my NDPH, screwed up big time and put me on all kinds of narcotics. I was in a bad bad rebound headache cycle and my life was miserable. Please change the doctor if this one is not responding or answering your questions or giving you wrong meds. I recently went through a thyroid episode also and the doctor was not returning my calls. I ended up going to 3-4 doctors and now I am with a very good and caring endocrinologist. A good doctor can make all the difference. Where do you live? If you are in NY/NJ or Illinois, I can recommend good doctors.
