Hello.. I've had the same left side Hemicrania continua - a line across the left side of skull and then the back of my head (left side) has paroxsysmal hemicrania continua.. I could draw a precise line of where the pain always has been. But past few weeks, I have had to up my dosage little by little with no relief because I have had new sections of pain across top of left head, the line on side of head is extending across my eyebrow and now I feel a section of it on right eyebrow! Has this happened to anyone else? Plus I have had episodes of smelling things that aren't there... bleach, garbage, rotting meat.. bizarre. Thanks for any advice/help.

I don't have HC (I have NDPH with overlaying migraine) but I have had some episodes of extremely sensitive smells where it is hard to tell if they are there or not (the only way I have found to tell is to have a pregnant friend around and see if she can smell it too...if she can then it isn't just me and it is real, just not strong enough for most people to notice). I also have extreme sensitivity like that to light and sound sometimes and I know the sounds are real since I can eventually find the cause, even if it is something like a person across the house turned a faucet on and I hear the water in the pipes (yes it gets that bad sometimes). For me the light and sound episodes happen a lot more often, but smell sensitivity (and/or just plain hallucinations...I don't know how to tell) does happen occasionally and for me seems to be linked to the migraine symptoms and also seems to respond to migraine abortive medication (at least most of the time).

I know HC can sometimes change sides, but I am not sure about the crossing the middle line without changing sides thing. I don't know how often HC co-exists with migraine, but if it is not the HC doing this it might be some kind of atypical migraine.

Sorry I don't have experience with HC. With any new/changing symptom, always run it by your doctors. Could be the HC moving, or could be something new. My NDPH moves around and varies in intensity, wildly. Best wishes.
