All -

I'm new to this forum and have not seen this question raised (maybe it has already been discussed?).

Has anyone suffering from NDPH been pregnant and had a child? We've been married for almost 5 years now and have pushed off having children out of fear of what it might do to my wife's NDPH, though there is some thought that maybe it would knock some hormone inbalances back into place and cure her? Wishful thinking I know, but maybe someone has a story they can share?

Any input is always appreciated, thanks in advance.

Best,

Asena

Hi Asena

Unfortunately I don't have an answer for you as I'm not pregnant, nor do I have kids yet. But, I wanted to chime in because I think this is a very important question. One that concerns me greatly. I'm getting married this year and I really want to have a child within the next year or two. I, too, would like to know if having a child has helped with the NDPH or just made it worse.

Thanks!

Kristin

Asena, That is a great and valid question. We've been told that as quickly as my husband's headache appeared, hopefully someday it will be gone the same. Maybe a jolt of something, in your wife's case hormones, will do it?

Unfortunately I also do not have an answer for you. I only know of a lady who got the headache after children and I know it has been very hard caring for 3 small children with the headache.

I hope you find your answer one way or another.

My advice is purely personal. I am not a Doctor and nothing I say should be a substitute for getting proper medical diagnosis and advice.

Asena, This question came up before, but it has been a long time. I will try to find the old thread for you. It is a really difficult question since as far as I know no one has studied this at all. I found some threads that should have some info for you. The last one is the least specifically related but includes at least one relevant story so I threw it in too. I hope it helps you and your wife.

Anyone who has personal experience, please add yours in, we could use all the information we can find. There isn't much to go on for such a big decision.

Asena, I am actually the person who posted the second question that Mary posted above. At the time I was trying to conceive. Now, I am actually almost 6 months pregnant. Whether it makes you feel better or worse, the pregnancy has not really had any impact on my headache. I would say that I thought that the days following my menstrual cycle always seemed to be a little worse so with those really bad days don't occur on a regular cycle as they had. I guess I am just happy that so far my head hasn't gotten any worse. Prior to getting pregnant, I had been off all meds for months just to make sure I didn't have anything in my system. The only downfall is that my ENT wants to do nasal surgery and I have to wait until after the baby is born. You will have to keep us posted!
