I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with Im DHE injections and or acupuncture. i'm recently started using the Im Injections of DHE and was wondering if anyone else has used them and what your experience has been with them.

We did DHE IV. It worked, but the relief was only temporary--24hrs. We did reflexology/massage...didn't help. Seemed to make her more uptight and worse. She couldn't relax.

Our doc initially offered the IM DHE, for me to give her (I'm a nurse). But he said the IV route is more effective, so we went in the hospital. I have a friend who used DHE IM 15 yrs ago for a while and she said it helped her headaches---she wasn't diagnosed with NDPH, but it sounds like it may have been what she had.

Our doc. also mentioned accupuncture. My daughter freaked out and so I don't think it would be an option for her. She's 11, so I don't blame her for freaking out! (*I'm 37 and would!)

Hope the DHE IM works for you!!!! Let me know if you go for the accupuncture!

Hi Kyle, my daughter is 17(18 in March)and she will not do the acupunture. We've been to a consultation, but she said no way. Get this, She doesn't want needles stuck in her feet...but...every 2-6 wks, she gets regular needles (that are literally 3x larger than the acupuncture needles) stuck in the back of her head in four places and these are partially withdrawn and moved 3 times for each of the 4 injections!!! These are the nerve blocks. Makes no sense to me...but she's a teenager, so I try to understand how she thinks about things. Please let us know if you try this, I'd love to be able to tell her your experience, then maybe she would go. I've heard it oesn't hurt..they insert the needles only a few mm. Oprah had a show in Dec. where she actually tried it...said it wasn't bad.

I haven't tried DHE injections, but I have tried acupuncture.

Just like most treatments, it depends on the person responsible for the treatment. I got stuck with a quite weird physical therapist who had a nasty habit of leaving me alone to attend other clients - while I had 15 needles stuck in my neck and head while sitting up. I'm fine with being alone, but you never know how one might react to needles puncturing your skin.

I reacted quite badly - almost fainted - twice. There's a quite awkward fear to being left alone with needles in your neck, feeling unconsciousness washing over you. Trying to scream for help but receiving none. My physical therapist came back right before I would have blacked out. Pale and sweaty and nauseous, I didn't find it the best experience of my life.

The acupuncture didn't help at all, after 12 times. But I have friends with migraine who find relief in it. I don't want to discourage anyone from acupuncture. I just have a high tendency to doze off when people stick things in my body. If you decide to try acupuncture - for God's sake, make sure you get a therapist with experience and time to sit along during the treatment. It's worth so much. But if your daughter doesn't want to try it, respect her decision. It's understandable to be afraid.

Thanks for sharing your experience. One acupunturist told us that for it to really help her , it has to be her idea to go. Kind of a psychological thing, which I agree with. She said she wants to save it for a last resort. I can understand that.
