I'm not dehydrated(I know that's always the first question). I've been waking up in so much pain. Does anyone else experience this? It's scaring me since I was falsley diagnosed with a vain of Galen aneurism in March (yeah I know, oops).

I only wake up in more pain in the morning if I had a bad sleep which used to be every night but now I am sleeping.

Do you ever feel like your pillow is causing you increased pain? If you have occipital neuralgia this can be the case. My daughter puts her normal pillow at the top of a wedge pillow. This seemed to help take some of the pressure off the back of her head. We got hers at Bed Bath & Beyond. It's about 8 inches at the thick end. They are great for snoring husbands, tooSmile
October 7, Lisa had her second nerve decompression surgery, this time on the nerves on the front of her head.

My headache is almost always worse in the morning (or anytime I lay down). When I mentioned it to my neurologists the only idea was pseudo tumor cerebri. When I had further testing, it was found that I did not have it so the idea was dropped. They never really had any other ideas why it would be worse in the morning. I'm interested to hear other peoples thoughts, especially since most people seem to feel somewhat better after lying down/sleeping.

All most every morning I wake in the middle of the night with a head crushing , mirgrain that brings me 4-5 hours of being sick where I just want to die from the pain and being sick, It is very rare if my mirgrain starts during the day unless I"m in the sun.

I hate bed time because I am in so much pain when I lay down my head feels like I'm on bricks ,I have tried so many pillows and new beds nothing has helped, I have tried all meds , the ones for mirgrians have caused me recations so that I can not take the normal stuff.

Mine are definitely worse in the morning, without fail. Then they vary in intensity throughout the day at work and by the afternoon they're so bad again that I have to go home after work and go straight to sleep. I work at a computer all day, so I'm sure that doesn't help much either. Sad

Ever get a lumbar puncture (spinal tap) to check the CSF pressure for a leak? Position should tell your doctor that something may be wrong like a CSF leak.

my headache is worse in the morning to. i think its from clenching my teeth at night and lack of movement for 8 hours makes my muscles really tight. i got a retainer made that i wear at night and in the morning as soon as i wake up i take a hot shower. that really helps.i also found taking asprin on days my headache is really bad takes the sharp edge off to.

Hi Amber,

Does the retainer help with the headache pain? Do you get pain in your jaws? I know I clench and sometimes grind my teeth, but I just couldn't get used to the plastic thing my dentist made to keep me from clenching and grinding.
