Nope I wouldn't describe my pain as burning...interesting. Mine is a pressure type pain, with intermittent throbbing. My opinion on Botox is its probably worth a try unless the out of pocket cost is too high. Insurance will cover it in the U.S. if your doctor will write chronic migraine (the only headache condition its FDA approved for).

It probably isn't any more likely to help than oral meds, but has a low side effect profile, and can give almost immediate relief (within a week), althoug...

Sometimes they just do the DHE, sometimes they add other meds (especially if the DHE doesn't seem to help). Lidocaine, Ketamine, Depakane, pain meds, phenergan (a nausea med that can help pain sometimes, or at least the nausea the pain meds often cause), etc, may be tried. If you go through with this, ask them what they are giving you, what it is for, and any side effects you should watch out for.

It freaks me out when someone tries to give me a med in the ER or whatever without actually ...

Welcome to the group. Sorry your son is suffering so much. So currently how often are the headaches and how long do they last? Is the vomiting only with the worst pain? Were any of these four doctors a pediatric headache specialist? If not, I'd try to find a neuro whose only practice is headaches. You may have to drive a ways depending on where you live.

From what you describe, my guess is that this is something different than the previous headache period, possibly migraine. Have any o...

I don't seem to get that effect from opiates, even the strong stuff. Certain ones at high doses do help my pain though. I'm sure you'll take whatever you can get! The goal with opiate pain meds is usually about 50% relief; anything more than that and the side effects and tolerance increases. Distraction is good. Best wishes....

So no significant headaches before Oct, and it was daily since Oct? They would call that sudden onset. The worsening is interesting though. There can definitely be more than one component. I have heard of others worsening then stabilizing, either at a higher or lower level. MOH sounds unlikely, but if you wanted to completely rule it out, you'd probably want to have her avoid any analgesics for 2-3 weeks.

Narcotics make some people more sensitive to pain, so its not unheard of to have wo...

My last round was 200 units, so about 40 injections, but I think I will drop back to 31 injections of 155 units (Allergan recommend between 155-195) as it is so expensive, and I don't think there is a significant difference between the two.

My neurologist who does the 155 units has been doing it for over 10 years for all sorts of conditions, so is a bit of an expert. My new pain management doctor did it last time and he has only had 6 months experience, and I must admit it really hurt. He doe...

- sinuses (allergies, infections, inflammation)
- being outside in the cold with no hat

Welcome! I'm so glad you have found some helpful treatments after all these years. I think its individual as to if Botox works for folks, despite the condition, plus they don't have too much data for it for anything but chronic migraine (what it is FDA approved for in the states).

I hope you have continued relief from the Botox. Sometimes it can wear off before the three months is up, plus sometimes there is some inconsistencies in the relief as there is some doctor skill involved in the i...

Triptans are easy enough to try, especially if you can get samples. They used to not help me, and sometimes now for certain types of pain (when it gets more sharp), specific ones help. Botox appears to help more migrainous headaches. I don't think its more likely to help NDPH than any of the oral meds, so if its a big hassle / cost, I wouldn't prioritize it. Its important to have a doctor with a lot of experience with it for headache (ie. does the injections on a weekly basis).

Yes I agree with Mary. Diamox may be worth a try even in the absence of intercranial hypertension, but I haven't heard of it being used for the feeling of pressure. However, I've had a couple doctors think it wasn't even worth me trying it. Best wishes....
