Hi everyone - my husband was diagnosed with MDS 5.5 years ago. Now he's having severe problems with low blood count. Had to have 2 units transfused 6 weeks ago because his blood count was 6.8 - today, his blood count was 4.5 - he's in the hospital now getting 3 units of packed red blood cells. Things aren't looking too good. Anyone had these experiences then bounced back? Thanks for any info you can provide. Be honest, I can handle it.

I can't give any advice. My dad was just diagnosed a month ago and had 2 pints of blood transfused 2 weeks ago. he stays tired. But I'm praying every day that God will heal him. And I'll be praying for your husband as well. Please try to stay positive and know that God is with you and your husband in your hour of need. He will never let you down, even though bad things do happen in our lives and people do have to suffer. And miracles DO happen. Pray often for your husband to be healed, and I will too. I'm sure many prayers are out there for you both. love and prayers, TrixieSmile

Hi trixie60, how is your dad doing? Has the doctor mentioned Procrit injections? Since my post my husband was getting regular transfusions and they were getting more frequent; 2 units every other week. The doctor finally told him he had to make a decision about the injections. He agreed to try them and just got his 4th one and the last transfusion was a month ago. However, he just told me he thinks he needs another transfusion as he is not feeling well; very light headed and short of breath. From what I've read it's not unreasonable to have monthly transfusions while on Procrit. In the meantime, my RA is acting up and, financially, there's no way I can go to my doctor. I could not get through a single day without my faith in God. God's peace be with you.
