It just occurred to me while I was messaging someone about heat and how it effects MG, that I should share a couple of things. These are things that I myself have to steer clear of or make sure are addressed....so take whatever applies to you.

1. Stay out of the heat. If you have to go out, take something ice cold to drink, or make sure the car is air conditioned....or the place you are going is air conditioned.

2.If you are in your 50's...check with your doctor to see if you are menopausal....hot flashes, mood swings and the inability to sleep. These things make the MG worse. HRT works for me.

3.Learn how to say no without the guilt. You know your body better than anyone else and what it can handle at any given moment.

4.Try to let go of unrealistic expectations that others place on you....the ones that don't understand how MG affects you on a daily basis. Surround yourself with those who do understand and you can freely ask for help.

5.If you think that your MG is getting the best of you emotionally, get some help. If you don't like counseling(and there are people who will do this for free or based on your income)......find a relaxation CD or tape to listen to on a daily basis. This along with taking deep breathes throughout the day will help you let go of stress.

6.Surround yourself with people and things that bring you joy each day.

7.Spend as much time as you can being still and quiet....and alone if possible.

8.Watch a funny movie at least once a week if not more often. The laughter eases up that lack of control over the disease.

9.Cry......schedule a good wailing if you need to. It will release the pain, sadness, frustration and loss. Do it as often as you need.

10.Continue to share your pain with others on here or through a support group. It helps to know that others "get it."

Hope some of these make a difference for you...they have for me.

Funny cause this is the same thing i do as well. Driving I make sure I have an ice pack with me at all times as it allows me to breath easier and I'm able to get my facial muscles working for abit. Slurpees work as well.

I watch comedy all the time just started getting into southpark that is such a funny show...and my BF always keeps me laughing I think he does it to get me from thinking about MG. it works and I always feel better when he is around. Guess I'm lucky that way. The only good thing in y life right now besides friends and most of all family.

I am with you on staying out of the heat. I was helping my kids deliver afternoon newspapers. We walked or rode bikes. After I was diagnosed with MG, I switched to the car with AC on even though it is sucking up the gas.

Previous discussions I participated in:
Mesitnon and sweating

Cindy Lee, I did not know if you were speaking to me or not, but anyway I will answer. I am getting along pretty well. Had a couple of extremely bad days a couple of days ago. Could barely put one foot in front of the other. I began a colon cleanse and I wondered if that was the cause ....someone said maybe my electrolytes were out of whack. I did not check with my MD before starting it. I stopped after 5 days and I do feel stronger today. Who knows..this is a strange disease with a lot of ups and downs as far as strength. How are you? I kept checking to see if you had spoken with anyone and we were concerned . Glad you are okay. Have a wonderful Christmas.

Cheryl...

I'm so sorry.....I was on a roll with doctors, tests...etc. for a while, and just had to check out for a while. I'm sure you as well as most of us on here just get overwhelmed with new symptoms....new doctors......or anything that causes us stress.

New stuff this week also.......and I'm just ready for it all to be over.....but just pluggin away.

I've never done a cleanse before...but always wanted to. I'd probably be like you.....my "somthing" would be off when I got half way through it. Then I'd have to deal with that. I'm looking forward to christmas and my kids being here........and also feeling better this year coming up. I have high expectations of things changing.

OK....thanks for checking in.....good to see you still in here. I'll try harder to be more consistent.

Take care..
