Has anyone gone through I.V.I.G treatments? My wife will be having hers in 2 weeks. Just wanted to get some insight.

I have gone through IVIG...a simple and painless procedure.

Even though I can no longer take this treatment as it lowered my red blood cel count.

This procedure is simple as it's administered as an IV. There is a nurse with you from start to finish taking vital stats. Weather it works or not I guess is differant from one patient to the next.

Best of luck to your wife and hope this treatment works for her.

They ended up stopping the treatments after the third one. I really didn't notice a differance. I prefer the plasmapheresis as with that I felt the differance after the first treatment. I was able to talk swallow and breath alot easier. My energy level was back to normal almost like I never had MG. Just to bad it only last 1 week for me.

plasmaphresis is a bit differant then IVIG...for starters because my veins are really small I have to get a central line in my neck. A central line is a tube inserted in the neck to the heart on that brings blood in and one that takes blood out.

What happens in plasmaphresis is that remove all the bad antigens out of the blood. How that is done is the blood is taken out of the body cleaned and returned. This can be done over 3-10 days depending on how bady the MG is. It can also be done as an out patient which is much easier then being stuck in a hospital fo 2 weeks.

If your wife has not had this procedure done I would recommend it as it should last at lease 3 months...if your lucky.

All the best with the IVIG... hope it makes your wife feel better
