My hubby is not his normal self lately & I am wondering if this is totally a part of the MS relapse that he has never fully recovered from or what. He is having anger issues, lashes out over very little things, lashes out at our dogs for now reason, lashes out at me & our son for no reason. I don't know waht I am supposed to do. I sent an email to his doctor requesting that they admit him to the hospital where they can get his meds & everything else under control. Now I am wondering if that was the right thing to do or not. I don't know how he is gonna react when he finds out what I did. Any advice, thoughts???

Has he tried counseling? Is he angry at something in particular and just taking it out on everyone? Or was it a sudden personality change? If it was a sudden personality change, that could be caused by meds or perhaps a lesion somewhere affecting his mood(I'm not sure about that but I think it's possible). Either way, if he is admitted they can help him and hopefully get him better. He may also need counseling too.

Thanks!! His personality change was sudden. But it was before he started his new meds. They have put him on 2 mood/depression meds since then in order to help with everything. But they aren't working & I am at a loss. Thank you again for your response.

You're welcome. I think you did the right thing, though he might not at first. A sudden personality change is def. signs of something serious going on in his brain, MS or no MS. It may be related or not, but there is something going on. I hope it gets better. Did you hear back from the dr? Is your husband aware of the change?

I won't hear back from the doctor until Thursday. Since my hubby is a vet he goes to the VA hospital & his neuro/MS doc is only there on Thursdays. I haven't mentioned it to my hubby yet because I am afraid of how he will react when I do tell him. I am planning on telling him as soon as I know what the doctor wants to do. Hubby doesn't think there is anything wrong with him. He doesn't even believe me when I tell him of how he has been behaving. So I know there is something really wrong because he has always been so suppotive & understanding.

I'm glad that you are getting him help. Hopefully they'll figure out what's really going on with him. Just make sure that when you tell him, you're safe. If it's a true personality change, just be a little cautious. Try to be as calm and factual about it as you can. I hope all goes well. Have you tried tape recording him and playing it back to him? Sometimes hearing your own words have a huge impact.

I have tried taping him, but he gets furious that I am "wasting his time" as he puts it. I do have a plan set to have someone else here with me when I tell him. I am going to try & make this easy & safe on both of us.

Yes they did get back with me. They had everything set to admit him Friday (8/28) but then remembered that he has a nueropsych appointment on Monday. So after I went through getting things ready, they told me not to bring but, but to take him to his appointment. Then they said they would consider admitting him on Tuesday. Since they need me to stick around to talk to psychiatry & a social worker, I asked them to wait until Thursday (since we are already scheduled to go then for his next med appointment) because I have 2 mandatory meetings on Tuesday & Wednesday night. Haven't heard back about that one, but I hope I do soon, because I have to move my babysitting around for Friday & I need to do it ASAP.

But at least, the doc does want to admit my hubby in order to get his meds figured out & see what else they can do. Thanks!!

Curious as to why they couldn't admit him and have his neuropsyc thing done while he's already there. At least they are going to do something though. I hate that he's a different person and doesn't even realize it. I can't imagine what that's like for him or you. Obviously something's going on and I hope they can figure it out quickly. I hope it is the meds and not something more permanant. Meds are easy to fix. I hope it all works out. If you need to talk about this or anything else just pop by.
