I suffer with D.I.D.S and have for 13 years. I have 6 alters. I have 1 who goes hospital to hospital getting percocet. She does it here and there and its scaring me. I had a siezure a few weeks ago and not sure why. I went to Dr. other day for tooth pain and he showed me a list of all the prescriptions filled since october and said he would not give any to me. This is when i figured out she was abusing them. when I call helplines about advice on it noone understands when I say I have D.I.D.S. THEY ASK ARE YOU CALLING FOR YOU OR A FRIEND. Im confused and need some friends who can relate to my illness. I have alot to talk about but noone to talk to but my therapist. Any friends and advice is appreciated. Thank you

Hi lilbritgirl, welcome to the group. I'm sorry you are having these kinds of issues. It can be very confusing and complicated. Is the therapist you are seeing trained in dissociative disorders? Is this who diagnosed you?

Are you in communication with any of your alters? Can you talk to the one who abusing the pills? Is there anyway you could get into an addiction treatment program? Even though you're not the one abusing the pills being in treatment still might help her.

It's nice to meet you and I look forward to getting to know youSmile

Hello, Lilbritgirl. I'm Fnaire, and with me is my alter and husband, Oren. You'll be seeing a lot of us, here.

How many hospitals are there in your area? Would it be feasible to call them all and ask them not to prescribe percocet to you?

I understand what you mean about the help lines. One of us called a suicide hotline some time ago on behalf of another alter. They urged her to force all the other alters into dormancy. Can you believe the idiocy?

It sounds like you're still in the early stages of DID and unable to communicate with your alters, let alone share consciousness. Am I right in assuming this? Otherwise, I'd suggest sitting down and having a long talk with this person. Perhaps you should try writing a letter.

Can you tell us more about the six of you?

Welcome to the group, Lilbritgirl. I hope we can be good friends and helpers to you.

Helplines are set up for singletons and not for multiples. I am not really sure that those that are professionals there have any real training or dealing with multiples. If you ever call them again, then try referring to the alter as a close friend, or as a family member that lives with you. I somewhat agree with Fnair/Oren, write a letter to or try talking with the one that is busing the pills. Get some liteture on the harmful effects that could be caused by this and express what happened the other day when you went to the dentist. Sometimes when it is seen that the behavior that they are exhibiting is causing problems, they will be willing to work to correct it. When you write this letter, or have this conversation, be sure to express your concern for them and that you re wanting to help them, be there for them. Try to make it more of a focus on finding the underlying cause and solving that issue than just getting rid of the pills. Have you made your therapist aware of the issue? Sometimes they have the ability to talk to alters bout things that the host cannot. They might also be able to give you better idea of how to approach the topic with the alter.
