Hi MRSA support group. My name is Kirsen Phillips. I am 47 years old. I have HA-MRSA in the tibia and left total knee.

Let me say it this way:

Since 1998 I have had HA MRSA it has changed the kind, type, receptiveness, and growth rate and is now for the fourth time completely antibiotic resistant.

I thought this was hard before:

Two years ago, I just remodeled my shop, relocated and had been open for 1 week, and my leg fractured in 6 places. They casted it and sent me home. I developed a septic infection. I was in the hospital for 8 months, the nursing home for 4 months trying not to die from the toxicity of the antibiotics.

Last July had neck surgery as fusion c3-c6 (bone degeneration caused by long term used of zyvoxx, vanco, dapto, and tigrcid and synercid). Then aug 07 I had my fourth total knee replacement. Now, I have just completed rehab reopened my now home-based business and can you quess what?

It's BACK! Two more weeks in the hospital. Business back on hold. People distancing once again. The soft tissue in the total knee is reinfected. Surgery is 1 week from monday (May 5th).

My options of treatment are few and far between. The big antibiotics are primaxin at 1 gm per 8 hours which is an unheard of does (the side effects are horible) so yesterday the does is reduced. What is so supprising and wonderful is I talked to my pharmist at Aprhia and they were so nice, heled get answers from the doctor and verified that I should be scared with those kind of wacky side effects.

In surgery they are taking out the excess metal parts, a couple of plates, screws, industrial wirebound staples and doing a 25 point bone marrow biopsy. We are most certainly off to the races now.

The discussion I had with my orthopedic surgeon yesterday went like this: We don't have any other medicine left. You are at the point where we will know if your left leg has to be amputated.

I looked at him and simply said ok I am ready for it. I have thought about this for a long time. I can't keep going through this every six months. Doc, this decision is all about quality of life. I am tired. I want other stuff in life besides constant medical medical stuff.

more later
