I had hospital-aquired MRSA in 2002 and again in 2005. Both after having abd surgeries. I now have a small wound on the surgical site that opened Jan 08. We are still trying to close it. It does not test for MRSA but a much less staph infection. The danger from having this wound is if I have to have surgery it may spread. Doc cancelled a knee replacement in Nov because of the danger. So now we are aggressivly trying to close the wound. I asked several docs if I would always carry MRSA. And they (all) told me, It would lie dormant in my body and could be ignited by any sickness. Kinda of like once having chicken pox, it lies dormat and if triggered it makes its apperance as shingles. Now remember, not everyone gets shingles just as not everyone will have MRSA triggered. Just something to be aware of. I do not wory about this any more, simply because it does no good. Our Viv, is one of the strongest people I have ever met. Superb attitute in the mist of storms. Shoot, she could dry up the rain by her sunny disposition. Hugs

Awe thanks bits,

As you know the weather has been a little stormy for me right now but I am not going to let it get me down or take away my blessings that I receive everyday by being on here with you guys..I have been truly blessed by God to be able to face problems head on and know no matter how bad it gets he is here for me and I will make it with his help..and bits your right it can become dormant and if your immune system gets low or you have surgery it can srike again but it does not mean it will..Most people are not like me and still living with it active for over 2 years because usually it clears up on most..I am here to try to help all I can..Even if I never get well I want others to be aware that this is a dangerous thing and left untreated it can cause serious problems but most do recover..I just have a lot of other strikes against me..Lets speak out and make others aware how bad it can be and how they need immediate attention...Thanks for sharing you guys..Bits I do try hard and thanks dear..

Hugs and Blessings,
Viv

You are so right, Viv. Because it is dormant does not mean it will become active. It means it could. I have had several illnesses since MRSA and it hasn't been activated. Plus, anytime I am hospitalized, bloodwork is done to check. It is something you have to be aware of. Hugs
