I don't know that everything that is called Morgellons is all the same thing. However, I had what I believe are all the primary symptoms for about six months, and no longer have them. So, I believe it is curable. First of all, there is no doubt in my mind that it is caused by an insect. The parasite has several stages, susceptable to different treatments. I agree with you that re-infestation is a problem. I developed a routine of sleeping on a rubber mattress, on a floor without carpet, and every morning getting out of bed and putting the sheets in the wash and washing down the mattress, both with a significant amout of ammonia. (I bought ammonia bottles by the case to wash everything). I reduced the amount of textiles in my house to a bare minimum, putting many things in storage in plastic bags with lots of moth balls, and repeatedly washed all remaining fabrics, including furniture, car interior etc. with ammonia solutions. I tried topical scabies treatments, and believe that they killed some stage of the bugs, because the itching would increase the next day as their dead bodies decomposed and triggered allergic reactions (my interpretation of what was going on). I cut/shaved my scalp and body hair. Having done everything I could to prevent re-infestation, I then did a combination of topical scabicides with a systemic skin parasite treatment (tablet). I had to use a tablet that is only approved for use in animals, because I could not get a doctor to write a presciption. It was called Capstar, and I only used it once. I would strongly discourage using it more than absolutely necessary (once). It would be idiotic to use it and then get re-infested, so the hygiene is essential. The only side effect I noticed was headache, but since it apparently acts on nervous system cells, it could possibly substantially harm brain cells (I haven't noticed any cognative effects, but that is a difficult thing to assess, even on oneself). I would also strongly recommend getting a physician to try to identify an approved prescription alternative instead, but I ran out of patience trying that. About an hour after I took it small white globs came to the surface of the skin on my thighs. It was finally over. That was September, 2006, and I have not had symptoms since.
