Hey there everyone,

There doesn't seem to be much activity going on against mono-infected people, so I thought I'd try to start a discussion. My name is Linds and I found out about 10 days ago, after a lot of lethargy and throat pain, that I indeed have mono. I'm 24 so I thought I was a bit old for this. It's been a real downer though - I've been otu of commission for about 2 weeks now and things don't seem to be getting better.

I'm really writing this in the hope that other people would be interesting in talking and sharing stories. Is anybody out there??

Linds

I was diagnosed with mono late december (although started feeling bad in october) I had sore throat, swollen glands, headache, ear ache, facial pain, aches and pains, chills, nausea, loss of appitite and extreme fatigue. Now i seem to have my energy back, but am suffering from dizziness and ear pain/headaches still. Mono is different for everybody. I am 37 and my doctor told me the older you are the worse the symptoms. you are 24 so hopefully you will have a better recovery.

Hope you get well soon

I am 41 and I too have mono - I was told it could take 6 months to 2 years to recoup... fun fun fun... I had the sore throat, swollen glands/spleen/liver - still do... and the fatigue... I had 3 nights off (I work graveyards) and I slept 8 hours - up for 2 - slept 11 hours - up for 2 slept for 5 hours - up for 3 - slept 10 hours... and so forth...

I still think my spleen/liver are swollen as I have decreased appy and some nausea with eating... my sinuses are better and my chest is clear. I had mostly chest/sinus symptoms first... the throat and glands came after - or were more noticable after?!?!?

Here's to more energy....

Hi, my name is Josie and I'm 43 years old. I was diagnosed with mono last week. Since I knew that mono usually strikes kids and young adults, I did not think that this would happen to me. As a result, it took me a whole month before I even was diagnosed!

It all started after I had returned from Vegas. I was so tired that I couldn't stay awake, but I figured it was all those late nights from the trip! Then I developed a really bad sore throat, my glands in my neck were swollen and I had a fever. (Five months ago, I had strep throat and so I thought I was developing it again.) Within a week, the sore throat/swollen glands went away....but I was still tired. I had an appointment with my GYN doctor and I told him that I was feeling really tired. He ran thyroid blood tests on me.....which all were normal. So, I assumed that I had caught a viral thing and kept doing "self-care." However, the tiredness NEVER went away!!! It was so bad that I practically fall asleep while I was driving to work, while I"m working on my computer at work or while I was simply just standing in line at the grocery store. I knew that something wasn't right, but then I thought that maybe I had a sleeping disorder. So, I waited awhile to see if I can "sleep" this feeling off. In addition to the tiredness, I developed headaches, muscle soreness and nausea....and I again blamed it on "having a viral thing." Also, since I walked 2 1/2 miles every morning before work, I thought that my muscles in my legs were sore due to walking. Finally, after weeks of not "shaking" this feeling off, I decided to call my primary doctor a couple of weeks ago. He ran blood test results and that is when I was tested positive for mono (spot). If I knew that I was susceptible to mono at my age, I would have taken better care of myself. (By the way, I work at a local Children's Hospital. It is possible that I got exposed to mono there. Two years ago, I was exposed to tuberculosis and I had to take meciation for 6 months. I wonder because I was exposed to T.B., that is why my immune system is shot? ) All while I was feeling this way, I went to work and I forced myself through the days. I get so frustrated because I am normally a very active person and having mono is making me feel "blah" and helpless. Also last week when I just got diagnosed, my boss put me through a stressful situation at work. I literally wanted to get a gun and shoot myself because I was physically not feeling well and she was doing a head trip on me! Anyway, now that I know what I have, hopefully, I can start feeling better soon! Get well wishes to all of you!!
