I looked and didn't see this mentioned anywhere. Just wondering if anyone takes Compazine after the onset of migraines. I am kind of afraid of it. I was given an IV of it when I went to the ER last week and it knocked out the migraine, but I got a flight (as in fight or flight) feeling that lasted for over 24 hours and was extremely uncomfortable. The Dr. said it could cause some jittery-ness, but it was beyond that. He also said that the pills don't have the same side effects as the IV. My "regular" doctor right now is student health services and I am kind of tossed around in there and no one knows how to handle me or answer questions. In addition, I went to the school pharmacy and they don't caryy Compazine. It worked though. I just don't know. I'm torn. I have these migraines so often and they last so long and are so dibilitating and this medicine works... but I already have problems with anxiety and I don't know if I could handle that feeling all the time.

Let me know what you think or if you have any previous knowledge.

Kelly

I would say if the doctor says it won't be as bad and it did get rid of your migraine then at least try one. Then see what happens. You can always tell them how or what is happening after you have tried. I do know how scary it is to take meds. I have had soooooo many reactions to a bunch of different thing my neurologist has tried on me lately...with no success. I am supposed to try out verampil and Topamax. Keep us posted as to how you are doing on it. We do like to hear if something works. Take care

As far as verampil goes, I have never tried it, but with Topamax, the side effects were annoying but not terrible-I'm sure you've heard-tingling in fingers, toes.. my forehead tingled. It goes away after a while. It is important not to miss. It works a day at a time. (I forgot I ran out today and can't get the rx filled till Monday...ugh). OJ helps with tingling.

Another side effect--weight loss. I had EXTREME weight loss. I liked it. They started me on birth control this year to take care of other problems, and I got it back, but... It did go away for a while

Okay... we're asking for Tegretol next! Thanks for your input! I can't imagine something stopping them altogether, how wonderful! Have you tried Lyrica for your fibromyalgia? It has been FDA approved for that recently. My daughter tried it for her migraines and it actually broke them on ocassion, but not lately. We're trying Zonegran starting Thursday and off the Lyrica. That's great to be h/a free!

Compazine is used for nausea and vomiting and anxiety. (I work in a hospital.) IV meds will have a stronger effect on you because the medication is going directly into your bloodstream , whereas a tablet or capsule has to break down and is absorbed more slowly. It is a good med, I've taken it before. I wouldn't hesitate to take it, especially if you know it helped in the ER.

From what I've read, I don't think many people like Topamax, we didn't. How does the Prednisone make you feel? My daughter has taken it twice, but doesn't like the way it makes her feel. She said it's feels like her blood is thick...like mud, and you have 'side stitches' all over your abdomen like when you run a lot. Last time it didn't work well, so she tried Migranal NS. That brought the pain level down from a 10 to a 4.

I take Topamax everyday... is that how other people have taken it? I started at 25mg and now take 100mg/day. I take it only at night. For a while I had tingling in my hands and forhead and loss of appetite. The tingling comes and goes still. Mostly, I don't have it... only if I'm really cold. It took a while for it to become effective, but it worked for both my mom and myself (I guess she had NPHD... I don't know if that's what it was diagnosed, but it lasted about 5 months). She refuses to get off the Topamax b/c she is afraid it will come back. I am trying to get my doctor to increase my dosage so I can take it twice a day. It is the only thing that has reduced the number of migraines at all. Sorry if some of this is repeating.
