From a headache clinic/hospital? I've been to several neurologists and I'm currently on Topomax and Maxalt ... but I'm still unhappy with the frequency of the headaches.

I'm just wondering if its time to just check myself into a real hospital and go through a real thorough evaluation. But I have no clue where to start. Have any of you done this? Was it successful? Where did you go? I'm in Arlington, TX but would be willing to travel if needed.

Thanks!

Kristi

I was diagnosed at a migraine clinic at Cincinnati's Children's Hospital (They won't see me anymore b/c I'm too old). Basically, they put me on the same prescriptions that you are taking, did a CT scan, led me through a BioFeedback session and asked me questions. I don't know if it is the same everywhere, but I think being persistent with my regular doctor, doing research and making suggestions has been helpful.

That is a very good question. I would like to hear from everyone who has done this. I to am interested in learning as much as I can on what the doctors are able to do. Since I still am suffering and still looking for answers. I am feeling like all the nero's want to do is give med after med and wanting me to stay on meds for the rest of my life. I feel that that should only be the last resort. Not the first. But then again I have other problems besides the migraines. (I think they are linked together some how)

I have the same question...when do you know it is time for inpatient? I am at my breaking point and don't know what to do now.

If you are at your breaking point--go. Try to get a referral from your general doctor. Insurance will like that better.

I have tried DHE before for 5 days inpatient treatment when I had insurance but now I do not have insurance. What other treatments do they have for inpatient at a local hospital without having to go to a special clinic?

I am a member of another forum. Many of the members there speak very highly of a Dr Krusz in Texas I think the Clinic is called Anodyne Clinic, maybe in Dallas. I am not sure that I spelled the name of the clinic correctly, or that it is in Dallas, but his name is correct and he is in Texas. He doesn't really do what I consider inpatient, he does a lot of IV infusions while you stay in a motel, and come to his clinic. Say you start treatment on a Monday and he sees you over the course of 3-5 days. You may have an appointment, go to the clinic for an infusion or whatever is appropriate for your treatment then go back to your motel to rest. Seems to be much more cost effective than staying in the hospital. I believe that there is even a shuttle service to take you to and from the clinic.

Anyway worth checking out since you live in Texas. Although Texas is a huge state so still might be quite a distance for you.

At the ER, I got a shot of torodol--but they also give that at some clinics. It helped some. I don't know if that's what you're asking.

They made me get a CT scan at the ER. It was reassuring but expensive. My insurance won't cover any migraine things--b/c it is a preexisting condition.

Kristi,

I've been in your shoes! I felt totally lost and frustrated! Sometimes all it takes is the right doctor. I had to switch neurologists. That is my best advice I can give. There are medicines and reigimes out there that can help you relieve your migraines. There are IV meds regimes your doctor should have suggested if Maxalt hasn't relived your migraines. I learned you should be talking triptans (like Maxalt) not more than a few days a month. An IV medicine may be what you need to get you started. The IV meds are not meant to be a maintenannce medicine or anything. It tired Keppra and Valprorate. Also, some doctors have used Botox to treat migraines for people who can't find relief from the IV medicines.

Hopefully this helps. Smile Have you tried any other triptan? Imitrex? Zomig? Trexmet?

Hi Lisa,

I was just wondering what other problems that you have. Not being personal I hope, but just curious. Because I also have other problems that may contribute to the Migraines. I have been an impatient 2 times for my headaches, but they thought I was having a stroke each time. Didn't do much, just wanted me to see my Neuro and that's playing out also. But good luck and hope you find your answer.

Dottie
