Hi there, I'm new to the group but not to migraines. I took topomax too for while but it turns out I was allergic. I take low doses of nortriptylene and a baby asprin every day and when the migraines are unbearable I take pheneragin (sorry about the spelling) I hope this helps!

Soopergirl,

When you take the pheneragin do it help your migraine at all? I don't think I've tried that I'm going to ask my doc. about it I hope it help me. I think I'm going to try the green tea extract(CellPro7) suggested by fdudley Have you heard of it or tried it.Well thanks so much for the advice I'll let you no how it go.May God Blessings Be with you always.

hey specialk, when I take the pheneragin it knocks me right out. When I wake up I usually feel somewhat better. Overall though it usually takes me about three days in bed to get rid of a migrain and the pheneragin just helps me to sleep. But I have noticed that the asprin and nortryptlene do help prevent the migraines. I has surjury and missed one dose of that and I got a wicked migraine so obviously something was working.

soopergirl3737,

So are there any side effects I should know about with these meds pheneragin or nortryptlene? When I go back to my doctor in 2 weeks I'm going to ask her to let me try these to see if they would work for me. Because topomax isn't working for me. Thank you so much for that advice I'll let you know how it goes.

Hi specialk, I haven't had any side effects from these meds. They have been around for a long time though so your doctor should know any possible effects. Also, you should start on a really low dose and then work your way up until you are at a dose that works for you. I currently take 75mg a day and that takes the edge off, I just dont want to increase because I am on so many other meds. Back a long time ago nortryptlene was used for depression and the dosages were in the hundreds...so dont be suprised when your doc tells you. I hope it works out and if you have any other questions dont hesitate to ask, I joined this site not only to get support but to give it! Good luck! My prayers are with you.

With love,

Oh yeah, I was wondering if you had any adverse side affects from the topomax. I had an allergic reaction where I went severely anemic and the doc said she had never heard of that happening so I was just curious!

Much Love!

Hey Hon, dont give up. We are never given anything more than we can handle. And you never have to feel bad about telling me how you feel even if it seems like you are complaining, I think that you are just expressing what you are thinking and feeling. I'm sorry you have suffered for so long, sometimes it just doesn't seem fair does it?!? Well I hope you find some meds that help you. I will pray for you and if I think of anything else that might help I'll write. Good luck with the doc! Write me soon!

My daughter has had 24/7 migraines for the past 3.5 years. She's tried every med out there it seems, but I know there are more! Lyrica and Elavil seem to help the most. She also takes Zanaflex and supplements like MigreLief (www.MigreLief.com) and Co Q10 150 mg. Ask your MD about these too.

We're here for support, so vent all you want!!! It actually helps us to hear from others and what they are going through.
