Hi there,

I'm a single mom dealing with migraines about twice a week. They tend to happen more on the weekends, I really don't know why. I had one Sunday afternoon - even kept going after I took my 150 mg of Imitrex. I'm pretty sure it was the flickering fluorescent overhead light in the laundry room, but I didn't have it on long - who knows.

So I put a cold rag on my face, a cold pillow on my face, took my glasses off, made it as comfortable as I could, and I still had to go upstairs and lay down - making my room as dark as possible and keeping my head as cool as possible. I fell asleep around 6:00, woke up around 9 when kiddo was going to bed (we live with my parents right now).

I felt much better after I woke up - but it's so frustrating to everyone - especially me!

Tried going to the dr, but all he did was give me Imitrex, since it's not a daily thing.

Ugh, i don't know.

Thanks for listening

welcome to the forum. I am the group leader here so if you have any questions or just need to vent please feel free to IM me anytime.

? for you on the weekends do you change your sleeping pattern at all? You should contact your Dr about this to see if he/she can give you something for the pain. Tell them your experiences that you have had lately. Sometimes things can change for a person including medication that used to work. I really know this one. Have you ever seen a neurologist? Have any MRI's or any other testing done? Also it is a good idea to track what you eat and your sleep patterns to see if there is a pattern. Some people have triggers. If you have one ( I have not found one for me yet) Then avoiding this item could help. Tell me a little more about your symptoms and I will see if I can suggest anything to try.

Lisa

The only change on the weekends is I don't take a shower right away and I don't go out and get a soda from the gas station.

That's the only difference in my morning routine - and the face that I don't go to work on the weekends...

I dunno. I've written down food that I eat and everything - nothing seems to be a trigger. I know not to drink wine because the next day I'll have a headache - not a migraine but still a headache - so I don't drink wine anymore. Beer doesn't seem to bother me tho. I don't drink often at all - just a random beer here and there (max - one a week).

I'm not sure what the triggers are - except for that fluorescent light - that HAD to do it. I can't stand a lot of flickering or strobes - they just don't feel good.

My insurance won't cover anything past general medical - oh the joy of student health insurance - but eventually I'll see one.

No MRIs or anything else either - it's hard being poor in this country.

I hear you there. I don't have much for insurance either. I have what is called a spend down through the state. Which means I need to spend so much in medical before they will even consider helping me. That is a month to month thing. It really sucks.

Any ways there are more triggers maybe you already know about them but just in case

cheese

wine

onions

stress

adjusting sleep times

dieting

some sites will have all kinds of different foods I cannot remember them all right now. Just google migraines and you will run across a lot of sites about it.

Try taking a morning shower and have that soda and see if it helps. You don't got anything to lose by trying.

Is the soda caffeinated? Caffeine withdrawal can cause headaches, even migraines. My daughter gets up at 6 on weekdays, then sleeps until noon on weekends. She invariably gets a headache that goes away when she chokes down that first cup of coffee and usually can't keep the coffee down. I told her to keep an Excederin on the bedtable because it contains caffeine. She wakes up, takes the pills then goes back to sleep and wakes up OK. My Dad swore by Excederin & Coca Cola for his migraines.
