Hi, I agree with Kat, I think the racing mind sounds more like a thyroid cond. I have had migrains most of my life and was dxd with Hypo thyroid a little over a yr. ago. I think I had it for some time before that but I don't feel I had problems with a racing mind (as you put it) till the later years.

I also feel I might have a small problem with panic attacks the past couple years. Haven't talked to the Neuro. about it just something I've decided myself.

I've had a couple of occasions where I got real short of breath, panicked feeling in my chest. Thought I might be going to have another seizure so I stopped the car and made myself breath deep and calm down. In a minute or so it passed. It seemed to happen when I was very conserned about something I was dealing with.

I'm not a Dr. and anything I write is my oppinion and my opinion only. I am just like you, I'm here for support and friendship from people who understand what I'm dealing with.

Totally agree about the thyroid - my mom's always had issues with hers and it really screws EVERYTHING up. I have the racing thoughts, but that is from my mania and my anxiety. I forgot to mention my adult acne/cysts that came about, but they were related quite a bit to the PCOS I think. I finally found the ONE product that actually works and I will never buy anything else, so that at least is not an issue anymore.

I do have potential nerve damage in my arms and TMJ. This was recently brought to my attention and I just keep forgetting about it with everything else that is going on. So I need to ask doc about that too. I sleep like crap - I almost always have awful nightmares, I snore so bad that I often wake myself up, I wake up with the slightest noise and find it difficult to go back to sleep. I have had recurring tendonitis in both elbows, but mainly my right one (I am right handed) and I have pretty consistent pain in the area directly in front of the elbow, closer to the hand, which is relieved with pressure. The clinic has given me shots in my elbow and braces for my hand and a band to put pressure around the arm, but I honestly don't want to be "that person" at the office who is wearing all that stuff, so I just stretch a lot throughout the day and apply a lot of pressure manually. I know it is stupid, but I'm in a highly political environment where I cannot appear weak, and then there is my husband who God had given no ability to demonstrate kindness and he just treats me with more disdain when I wear these things. I will ask Dr. Hummer about the possible nerve damage and some special nerve testing that the clinic told me about. I also want to have a sleep study done. As for testing for thyroid, that is actually a good idea in my case but I'm not sure my neurologist would be the right one, but I'll ask anyhow. I'll let you guys know either tomorrow night or by COB Monday how things went. It is much easier to write to you on my breaks at work.

I had once either been told or read that people with migraines- the cortex part of the brain is hyperactive? Maybe this is where I come up with my thought of racing mind/hyperactive???? I will need to do some research on that...that would be a great question for the neuro.

one more day without a migraine for me, thank heaven for small favors- Topamax!

Oh, what is the ONE product that helps the acne for you? I have found that head and shoulders shampoo works great! LOL! It is so weird! I did forget to mention that I have the TMJ and plantar fascitis...I have been having some pretty severe panic attacks. I have noticed them more on meds than without them! Crazy, I know. It's been awhile since I have had the thyroid checked, all of my bloodwork! I guess it's about time- I just hate the thought of more medical bills!!! Ewwww..

Exposed Acne Treatment. Okay, I went to the doc today. I'm going to do a sleep study, a nerve test, and the ECG with bubble (to see if I have the hole in my heart). My doc is the absolute best and is just so caring. He said, "with anyone suffering as much as you, it's worth checking out your heart." I told him about the issues with my husband, and he was just so wonderful about it. He will do anything to help me get rid of my headaches and migraines.

That is awesome! I have never had the echo with bubbles but I am familiar with them. Maybe I should ask for one the next time? I am so impressed that your physician is so understanding! You don't find that very often!! I hope you have a painfree weekend. Take care.

There is a school of thought in the medical community that says that migraine headaches, irritable bowel syndrome, depression, anxiety, and some other disorders, like Fibromyalgia, could all be caused by the same thing--a hypersensitivity of the nervous system. What causes that in the first place isn't fully understood, but sometimes, childhood trauma or trauma or any kind is linked to this. In my case, I believe this to be true. And, remember, "Bipolar disorder" is really Bipolar Depression, so it's just another kind of depression. A racing mind can be a sign of a manic episode, which is part of Bipolar depression (or Manic Depression as it is also know). I don't know if there is any "proof" of this, but the same medications used to treat depression are used to treat migraines and irritable bowel syndrome, and anxiety--seretonin drugs. So, there is a definite link.

Well, the above just about describes me in a nut shell! I will have to check it out on the internet. As I have mentioned, I have not been diagnosed, but have a STRONG family history of bipolar disorder/disease. (aka manic/depression) Thanks for the input!

I don't know if there is a connection to migraines and other physical issues but I too suffer IBS and gastritis. I have anxiety/OCD as well. I take Xanax every day for the anxiety.

I'm new to this group but I've had migraines since I was 21, now 42. I have suffered from depression on and off since high school. Really hit bottom about 2 years ago with it. Finally seem to be under control. My migraines had gotten really bad the last 5-7 years. They would be almost if not daily and high pain level. My dr told me it would be normal to be depressed when fighting chronic pain. Chronic pain causes depression too. The two go hand in hand and is a catch 22 on which is first. My pain is always centered in my neck/shoulder/occipital area. It just will seem so tight and then it spreads to behind my right eye. I've done all the medicines I think, I get immune to them after a 6 months-a year. Then play with meds again to find something else. Right now Treximet is what I'm using for abortive. It relieves the pressure that I get, which feels like my brain is too big for my skull. I also go to the chiropractor which works for a few days then it gets tight again. I've tried massage too which same thing, for a few days only. Keep doing it cause at least it's a few days of it letting up. I've thought about accupuncture and I have a friend who has tried it and said it helped. I myself haven't and like you said it's not covered by insurance but neither is my chiropractor or massage. Good luck on accupuncture. Sorry, went on longer than I meant to.
The only medical knowledge I have is my own experiences. Bretta
