Does anyone here know of any remedy to ward off a migraine before it starts, in particular, I get one usually with severe nausea just before it rains. I know someone has to have experienced this, also. We also get snow in winter here, and the same thing. Migraine before a snowfall. Basically, changes in the barometric pressure=Migraine for me about 75% of the time. I have been with the same Neurologist for about 2 years now, and haven't made any headway with prevention other than trying to decrease stress, which is not gonna happen under my present circumstances. Any suggestions?

Sorry, no advice from me. I have the exact same problem. We are actually considering moving. Humidity seems to play a large role for me, more so than barometric pressure, so we are discussing moving to a state that is a bit dryer.

Maybe someone else has other ideas (less drastic than moving). Smile

Maxalt works for me when I know I'm getting a migrain but I have to take it at the first sign of the migrain before all the pain. I usually get an aura before the pain so that is when I take the Masalt.

This is going to sound weird, but I've always been a little jealous of people who get the aura before a migraine. They get a warning and can get ready for it, so to speak. I just get clobbered and don't know what hit me. lol

I was told once that my facial numbness was a sort of aura, but I never seem to make the connection between it and oncoming pain. For me, the best thing I have found to prevent headaches is liquid magnesium. It does not taste good, but since I've started taking it my headaches have decreased dramatically. It is almost miraculous to me.

If I skip it for a couple of days, I pay for it. I still get them when the weather acts up (we've had super high humidity lately) but they are no where near as bad as they were.

I do appreciate the aura. I used to get a numbness move over the left side of my body before the pain but the last years the aura is with my eyes. Does give me time to take the maxalt.

I know the high humidity does affect me too. I get far more headaches when the humidity is up.

Yes, the humidity kills me. This last week has been terrible. The humidity has been unreal; one day was 93%! There is rain all around us but it only gets close enough to cause pain, not close enough to get anything wet. Smile So I've been kinda miserable this week. Sad Between the headaches and my fibro acting up, I feel like I've been hit by a truck.

I need to order more of the magnesium supplement. I've not been taking enough because I'm low on it. I had hoped I could take the pills once the liquid got into my system, but it doesn't seem to work as well for me. Sad Pills are not as easily absorbed as liquid so they are not as effective. I think I need to invent a formula that tastes good. Then my daughter would take it. lol She gets migraines too but she won't try the magnesium because it doesn't taste good. Smile

Of all the things to inherit from me--migraines! Poor kid. Sad

How old is your daughter? I have a 13 yr. old son and he too has inherited migrains from my side the family. So far he doesn't get them real often though. He has alot of trouble with alergies and I think that helps trigger headaches for him in the early spring and fall.

I think I will have to try and get some of the magnesium supplements for him to try if he starts to get them more.

My oldest daughter is almost 19. My 13 year old son gets them occasionally as well, by my daughter gets them often like I do. I agree about allergies. My son has bad allergies and there seems to be a connection.

You may need to try different types of magnesium, but the liquid is best absorbed by the body. The pills are kinda hit-or-miss. If you decide to try it, let me know and I'll tell you what kind I use.

I would be willing to try the liquid magnesium if it doesn't counteract with any of my Rx's. Thanks for the tip. Smile

The one I use is from a site called Pain & Stress Center. You should be able to Google it and find it. The product is called Magnesium Solution 18%. The company that makes it is called Cardiovascular Research Ltd.

If you try it, start with a smaller dose or you can get diarrhea. Start small and work your way up to taking one teaspoon, four times a day in water (or whatever you want to drink).

It should not interact with meds in any way, but you should still let your doctor know just to be safe.

If you have any questions about it let me know. Smile
