I mentioned on another post I had been hospitalized over the weekend for a complicated migraine. I don't know what caused it as I had been doing very well thanks to Topamax. I had been in the SUN that day some.

However just a while ago I went in to sit in my recliner for a while and the light caused the right side of my head to have the kind of wierd pains I was having Sat. nite when the stroke-like symptoms started. We bought those energy-saving lights that are kind of curly-cue shaped. I have something similar in my bedside light and I've never noticed it causing problems. As soon as I left the area the electric pulse feelings on the right side of my head stopped.

Is anyone else here sensitive to these kind of lights? I know flourescent lights are a biggie, but I'd never heard of these.

Thank You,

Lois LynnBlink

Wow, that is interesting. I've never heard of that type of light being a problem. It will be interesting to see what others know about this.

I am wondering that if it is only in that particular area of your house that is causing you issues, maybe there is a stronger electonic field. I have read stories that say that if a person is sensitive to a strong electro magnetic field (EMF) then you can get things like migraines from it as well as nausea & other things. I am thinking this could be the issue sice you said that as soon as you left the area the pain left, that could be the issue. Just a thought.

Hey, that is an interesting possibility! I know when I'm working at the computer all day I always end up with a migraine as well as nausea (which usually comes first). Which is a pain because it's my job to be at the computer all day.

Anyone else have this happen to them?

I will have to look into the electromagnetic field thing. The computer doesn't bother me, but I don't have to work at it, I come and go as I please, so that could be why.-Cammy

I'm an Advocate

If I'm on the computer for long periods of time over several days it definately sets me off having a cycle of migraines. Which can be very irratating as sometimes I have to use the computer and have no choice in the matter!

The EMF thing is interesting.

When we bought our new townhouse, the previous owners had those curly energy-efficient things EVERYWHERE. We had to replace them all. They were causing me the same problems that traditional fluorescent bulbs were.

When you're working on your computer, the computer screen should be the brightest light in the room to avoid eye strain and migraines. Not pitch black with a glowing monitor, but soft, indirect light. I've got two desk-top lamps and one floor lamp in my office at work (all with incandescent bulbs) so I can adjust the light just how I want it. The overhead fluorescent lights NEVER come on.

People who don't have issues with migraines see my office and started to set up something similar. They say it's much easier to work and less stressful.

BTW I bought the lamps myself several years ago so I can take them with me whenever I transfer to other jobs.

Aldalton,

Thanks for the info about the energy-effecient bulbs. We got rid of those. Between that and the Topamax, I've not had any more Complicated Migraines so severe that I required hospitilization. I still occasionally have mild ones that last no longer than 30 min, and I still do have the regular migraines, but not very often.

Cammy
