Hi Everyone!

almost two months ago i was diagnosed with Epilepsy.. but the thing is i went for a second opinion and they said that they think i have migraines and not Epilepsy..

what happend was on a thurseday i was feelin like i was about to catch a cold i was feelin kinda achey and a small headache and a stuffed nose so i took a flutab so it wouldnt get worse.. 20 mintues later i ended up passing out but the thing is i was still conscious at the time but i felt like i was in a dream i couldnt see clearly and i couldnt understand anything that anyone said to me.. after a minute though i was fine. the next day i had also a small headache but i didnt take anything for it and nothin happend on saturday i woke up with a pounding headache i stayed like that till like 7 in the afternoon and i couldnt take it anymore and i tookt two panadol extra and same thing happend i ended up like 15-20 minutes later passing out but without the loss of conscious like last time.. but this time after everything was over maybe ten minutes later i passed out again.. note i've been takin panadol since i was eight coz i've been havin bad headaches since then so i dont think it has anything to do with an allergic reaction.. i've been on epilepsy medication now for two months and i'm still getting bad headaches but i havent passed out since then?? could i really be suffering from migraines and not Epilepsy??? thanx

That is a difficult one to answer without being an MD. My daughter felt like she was getting the flu when she first got her migraines at age 14. She would feel sick all over, achey, etc. for about 3 days, then she'd be ok for a few days. Then it would start again, and progressively worsened in frequency and severity until they were and still are 24/7 for the past 4 years. She often feels like she is going to pass out, but only has once and fell down the stairs. She was on Klonopin at the time which left her in a daze the next day. We think this was the cause of her passing out and falling, but not 100% sure. We took her off of it and i t hasn't happened again. I would suggest maybe a 2nd or 3rd opinion from another neurologist to make sure. Many drugs for epilepsy are used for migraine prevention, so it can't hurt that you're taking it.

Hello,

I have migraines. My son had had seizures from age 3 to 8years old. He had Grandmal ones. They were horrable to watch. I felt helpless. It sounds like to me you might have had what is known as a mini seizure. Alot of people have seizures or can feel when one is going to happen. I would say it would be safe to say you had a seizure. Not a migraine. Have your Neurologist order up a EEG. It might not show anything though. Don't get discouraged if your Dr don't find anything wrong. My sons always turned up good. He had alot of them done. But this would be the correct test to have done. Sometimes all that means is they might have to up your medicine. Your body gets used to a certain dose or if Your body grows if your young. All could mean your meds need ajusting.

Add me to your freinds list I will answer any questions you have about Epilepsy. I did alot of research on it.

Lisa

when i was at the first hospital they did me an EEG and it showed up thats how they knew i had Epilepsy.. i've been on epilepsy medicine for 2 months now and i've been feelin much better.. my brother was diagnosed with childhood epilepsy when he was eight and told they told him he would out grow it and thank god he hasnt had another seizure in almost eight years now and since hes been off the medicine (hes been off the medicine for almost 10 years now)his seizures were grand mal also..my grandfather and my aunt from my mothers side both suffer from epilepsy and some of moms cousins aswell which makes me believe i have Epilepsy.. my mother suffers from really bad migraines so when i went for the second opinion they were like no we think its just bad migraines.. but what i dont get is right b4 i passed out or had the mini seizure or whatever it was i would get this sudden fear right outta the blue coz the first time i was sitting at the dinner table and i got up to get some water and i felt like i was just terrified for no reason and it wouldnt go away.. i was like that for maybe a minute befor i fell .. and also the other two times that it happend.. so i just was thinking how could that be migraines and why would i get that feelin like i was just terrified for no reason right befor i had an attack??

It sounds like to me that you infact had a seizure. My son when he was 3 years old, He was sitting in the car (at night) (While we were going to get movies)He started screaming like something scared the crap out of him. We quickly pulled the car over and I looked into his eyes and I knew right away that he was having a seizure. We grabbed him and ran into the gas station. The lady called a 911. I was so scared I couldn't even tell if he was breathing. A cop stood above me and did nothing, said nothing. I guess he had never seen anyone have a seizure before! The lady working at the gas station was very helpful, she told me she can see him breathing. He did turn blue. We went to the hospital and they kept him over night. His EEG turned up normal. He continued to have them until he turned 8 years old. Then they quit. I thank god for that! He was on alot of meds to control them. The last med he was on was depakote.

If your EEG showed up that you have seizures then they shouldn't have assumed that you had a migraine. People with migraines are usually aware of what is going on. It is not uncommon to have a headache/migraine after a seizure. Also to be extemely tired. Some people even wet or soil themselves.

Like I said before some people can feel when a seizure is coming on. That terrified feeling you get might be your sign. When you feel like that, make sure you lay down and let someone know what is going on right away. This way you don't fall down and hurt your self even worse. Tell who ever is around you to protect your head and not to hold you down. have them turn you on your side so as you won't swallow your tonge. Then every time you have one keep a record of it. Also another important thing is have someone time them to see how long they last. If it gets more than 5 min. they should call 911. It can be deadly if they last too long. Also it can cause brain damage or memory loss if they last along time. Make sure to bring your recorded days and times to your Dr. Keep in touch with your Dr. This way they can see if they need to give you meds for it. Or sometimes they might need to up your dose.

Like I said I did alot of research on this. If you have anymore questions please feel free to ask me. Take care,

Lisa

thanx lisa that was really helpful.. i went to the seond doctor yesterday and they did an EEG and they said there was alittle activity there but that was normal for a girl my age (20 years old) and that that Activity could easyly be confused with Epilepsy (i think that still doesnt Explain why i was havin those episodes)and and that i'm just suffering from terrible migraines and they wanna start takin me off the medicine.. i have been havin bad headaches since i was eight but they never EVER made me faint or anything the worse it would do was make me feel like i'm gonna vomit or something but thats about it.. i've been getting Anxity now coz they're makin me stop my meds and i'm worried that i might start havin bad seizures if they were really seizures that i had.. what do u think i should do?? both EEC showed epileptic activity but ones saying its epilepsy and the other is saying its normal for my age..

Hi Bronzey,

I think what I would do is ask for all the tests and results. Then make a appoinment with a 3rd Doctor. Discuss all your feelings with this Doctor. Ask the Doc this one very important question. "COULD I HAVE BOTH MIGRAINES AND SEIZURES!" I think OF what if's all the time. It's not like this couldn't be possable. Then ask him what he thinks of this " COULD MY SEIZURES BE CAUSING MY MIGRAINES" This too is possable. Let me know how it goes! Take care,Lisa

Get in and have a 3rd opinion. Sometimes it is better to start with a new Dr. They might get a different perspective. This is what you really need to do! Keep me posted on how it goes.
